INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Wow! I feel so lucky to live in my tiny town. I am surrounded by fellow chicken owners as well as ducks, geese, horses, goats, pigs...etc. So glad I didn't have to struggle to have my chicken buddies!

I finally got some pictures taken & figured out how to post them!

This spring's chicks: buff orpingtons. silver & gold laced wyandottes, isa browns & easter eggers. The cinnamon queens were hiding behind the waterer.

Some of our spring rabbit litters -- just a couple days old. Thrianta kits on left & Silver Fox kits on right.

Henry, our BO roo

Our alpacas after being sheared -- love the poofy hairdo. Alpaca necks amaze me!

The spring chicks about a month later. Is the middle girl considered an easter egger? The hatchery says its "araucanas ameraucana-strain". The chicks in the right picture were really curious what the alpaca on the other side of the fence was eating.

Our bunnies about 4 weeks old. The mom on the left is a blue Silver Fox. 2 of her kits are blue & the other 4 are black. Thrianta babies are on the right. The black baby with the thriantas is a silver fox being fostered.

Max & Olive, our English Shepherds. They love to go in the pond.

Thanks for letting me share -- hope this wasn't too many pics at once!

X2 EmSteele! I will never go back to living "in town" again.

the pics!!! Alpaca are wonderful sweet animals, aren't they? We had 2 gelded boys for a few months, 3 years old. We had to make choices over what livestock to own, so we rehomed them recently to open space for cows. If we are able to purchase the land next to us someday, I will definitely have them again but will start with cria rather than adults.

I live about an hour away, but I have a few chickens for free if she would like them.

I'll let her know!

I've sent a pm, we are just a few miles apart!

That's great! Hope you can help her out. I feel so bad. I'd be devastated if I lost my whole little flock!

Seriously, those Alpacas are cracking me up!

Quick run question as we are drawing up plans to build the coop/run this weekend. How vital is it to bury the hardware cloth 2 feet down? I know that probably sounds like a really lazy question, but our run is going to be 16 x 8 and that is a lot of digging! Just wondering what everyone's experience with it has been.

The other option is to lay on the ground around the coop, be sure to have some up the sides & attach to create the barrier. Then landscape, burying the hardware cloth etc you can do rocks, mulch etc.. it will have the same basic effect just not quite as secure. That's what i did due to the size of my ever growing coop, and progressing chick math disease

my buff orpington roo dances. I think he has a fighting dance and a mating dance. He wont fight but if another roo gets close to his hen he does this funny little feet shuffle if they act aggressive back at.him he runs screaming lol then he has a diffrent dance he does when he's chasing hens around. I had a banty (idk what kind?) I called happy feet. He reminded me of tje penguin in the movie his feet were always moving but he had no hens he stayed by himself but It was so funny. He would shake 1 leg then kick the other he had a little routine and would do it while he was eating or standing. Iv not found another 1 like him

I remember that last summer our "surprise" RIR cockerels started doing the dance. It was a little side-step shuffle as though they were trying to be intimidating, but at that age it was pretty funny. Several members have posted about cockerels learning to crow. I remember that ours started with, "Er a Er a" and finally graduated to the full "Er a Er a Errrrrr."

HELP with UPLOADING AVATAR on PHONE
Can any of our members help itsjustme get her avatar uploaded to her phone? I made an avatar for her, but she uses BYC on her phone and can't get the avatar to upload (I'm not complaining because I made the avatar; I know that she is frustrated because there should be a way for her to do it.)

She and I have discussed it and have looked at a BYC Forum about Mobile Feedback, but it didn't help solve the problem. This is what itsjustme has done using her android 2.3.6 phone:
She clicked on Mobile for the phone format, but you have to switch to Desktop in order to "Change Avatar." So when she switched to Desktop, it gave her the option to change the Avatar (from the generic one), which she did by the usual "Upload Image" - "Choose File - "Submit." It appeared to work, but when she switched back to Mobile and it said "We are sorry this page does not support mobile devices."

Thank you for any advice!

They're adorable! I'd like to get a fawn/light colored one yet. The folks who did our shearing last weekend had a really pretty silver colored one too. I think I'd better stick to collecting chickens instead of alpacas -- alpaca math costs a lot more than chicken math -- and takes up more space!

Where did you have yours sheared? Bio secure came here, they were going to Mishawaka the next day though. I wondered if your were in that group.
