INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Spent 4 hrs today working on breeding pens and growout pens. I didnt really get much acomplished, but am going to be working on it everyday this week. Yaaa lol. I am doing it in reverse order though. started on breeding oens then started working on grow out pens and haven't even started working on the brooder yet and I have chicks hatching the 15th. And i didnt even finished either of the ones I started lol.

One of the silkie chicks had an eye matted shut when I got home today. After warm compresses and rinsing it with an eye wash I got when I worked a vets office it finally opened up. It had some gunky stuff I pulled out with tweezers. I'm hoping it was just a small piece of bedding or something that irritated it. Always seems to be something! Lol

Ohh and the other chickens are pecking the afro of my tolbunt roo! I've tried blucote the first two days I noticed it and now smearing pine tar on it twice a day. I don't want to separate him as it maybe harder to move him back in with his original "brooder" mates.

They are so sweet! Big difference between these and the BBW (meat turkeys) Docile, friendly gentle little things.

my Bourbons should be hatching in 3 weeks, super excited to see them!

Im so envious, the kids and I were just out attaching the hardware cloth around the base of ours. Do you have pics?
I do, but as of yet, it's just a foundation....DH is very confident of his ability to get it done tomorrow

But he did go out and finish buying the supplies, so I am hopeful. After all, it's just nailing together wood. However, I tried to help today and I maimed the drill. I was delegated to "entertaining" him with conversation for the rest of the afternoon. I will try to post some pictures after work tomorrow so I can show his progress, and (hopefully) a done chicken coop.
When I was over there, what you had in the basement looked to be chickens. Apparently, you have a cat in a chicken suit among the crowd.

John
I wish! My kitty is so inept it's unreal. My dog is better at catching mice. Though, I have never seen Dinah attempt to catch a mouse....maybe she's just lazy? I think I will stick her in with the chickens and have them teach her how to hunt!

How do I stop a chickens toe from bleeding fluffy (the frostbite toe chicken) has a toe that's bleeding non stop
hmm.png
I'm freaking out her feet are soking I need help please it looks like her skin got cut open help me please ... I cant upload pic
I would invest in some blue cote or blue lotion. It's an antiseptic for horses (I believe that's the animal that they market it for) they have it at RK and TSC, and it is awesome. It not only stops the bleeding (though I am not sure how well it would work on heavy bleeding) but it cleans the wound and turns it blue so that the other chickens won't pick at it.

The way I keep peddling this stuff, I should get paid for advertisement!!

A little shout out for help from all my Indiana BYC friends. I am an artist trying to build an audience. Facebook for all it's flaws, is a valuable tool in my venture to escaping the starving artist life. I am three likes away from 100. After 100 options open up so I may do more with my page. If you are on facebook please click like on my page. If you like the page please share it with your friends. Check out my photos as there are several Chicken art pictures. Also there are free drawings for prints from time to time. Really appreciate your help!

Here are some examples of my art.

Do you sell your chicken artwork?

If you do, I would definitely be interested in some!
Animallover: have you found a new pair yet? I have a pair of OEGB that are 9 weeks old if you were interested. The roo is looking like a silver duckwing, I am not sure which color the pullet is. let me know if you are

I don;t suppose anyone would like to make an offer on a golden seabright roo? also 9 weeks. Friendly and will eat out of your hand, just not my favorite of the two.

I was out building raised gardens this afternoon and they were all playing in the temp run. It was a nice day
How far away from Frankfort are you? I have a couple seabright hens....though DH will kill me if I bring another roo home after John took my extras!! But I can't help but see tiny little golden fluffballs running around....

Also, not related to chickens, but I know quite a few posters on here are women, and I totally found an awesome deal for my fellow nail polish lovers. Free Nail Polish!!!!!! It's this website: Julep.com

Anyway, it's this site that ships "Maven" boxes that contain two nail polishes and some sort of "beauty product". I saw an ad for a free box so I went ahead and got one. I had to pay $4 shipping, but it was totally worth it. I got two polishes and a hand scrub. The polish didn't chip or peel off, which is really hard to find with all the abuse I put my hands through. To get the deal, go to julep.com and click on the "become a maven" tab in the top left corner. You take a "style quiz" that takes less than a minute and then it shows you what they think your personality is, and they hit the nail on the head with me. Once you add whichever box you want to your "shopping bag", go to the shopping bag and in the bottom left hand corner there is a box labeled "promotional code". Put in: FREEBOX and then it will be free. (You still have to pay the $4 shipping)

Don't know if I am allowed to "coupon share" on here, but this one works. I have already gotten one for me, my mom, my sister, my MIL, and just about any other woman in my vicinity. And it has worked every time. You do have to have a new email account for each free box, but it can be shipped to the same address.

Which is helpful since my sister still lives with her mom.......

Update: Buckets with plastic handles don't appear to hold up well when hanging from a rope.
Note the crack forming on the handle.

This could give a chicken a terrible headache.

I will be changing over to the few buckets that I have with wire handles.

John

I have a five gallon bucket with the push in style nipples. It dont leak and works great. BUT MY DARN FLOCK WONT DRINK FROM IT. They know how and ever so often I will see 1 drink from it but not very often.
