INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

White plumage in chickens: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_white_(chicken_plumage) It explains about albinism on this page as well.

ETA: So if I'm reading this page correctly, if the chick is completely white with pink skin and eyes, it is an albino. If not, then you are most likely seeing recessive white. :)

Well, today my dh made great progress. The window is installed and the flower boxes are waiting. The roof is on the coop, but we still need to extend it out for the run on the other side. You can see the hardware cloth is attached at the bottom under the siding, but still needs to be buried. He also got my tiller working this morning so I can till up and dig out the dirt. I was debating putting in shrubs in too, but I think it would just make it harder to tell if something was digging out there...maybe just a rock garden or some smaller flowers. This is my wonderful husband. The painting is my job. This is my son. The windows are covered with hardware cloth too under the siding and will be trimmed out too as well as doors or shutters to keep out the cold in the winter. There is still so much painting to do and then gravel and sand for the run. This was the inside before the inside siding was put in. You can see the nest box on the right (currently full of tools). On the left side are doors that go the width of the coop so that I can clean out under the roosts that will be there. I'm hoping there will be room for a table to hold the little dog crate I've been using when someone needs to be separated. My next issue is trying to decide the flooring. I'm planning to put down a layer of linoleum but then I was thinking I could either use sand for quick cleaning or shavings, which would go in my garden later. If I go with sand, is playground sand ok or too fine?
Beautiful coop!

It's this chicks first night in the coop and I'm so nervous! We've been working nonstop on projects so it's my first chance to update and catch up. The outside still needs trim, shingles, and siding, but I don't think Carl and the girls mind. Just checked on them and everyone but Lemon was tucked in on the temp roosting pole. I think it's a tad high for her, so I helped her up. She's kind of my girl.

Is it possible for a white baby to come from a black mom and dad (Mr. Frizz and Ms. May)
If you don't know the lineage anything is possible. Did the breeder give u any info on the parents color, etc?

Hika Ma the manly Easter-egger bantam:

Po baby the black Cochin bantam

Quote: Your guys look like they are having fun, and your coop looks just awesome!

Quote: He is a handsome boy, same for me, would love to have him.

...what if its albino but she dont look like it she looks like a white Cochin but she is pretty wish I could upload pic of both of them
Albino will have red eyes. (No pigment/color)

Ok so I done some color research and Alphe is a Black Cochin and Lemonie is a white Cochin. The only weird thing is that they both came from same parents so how is that possible the the 2 black parents can have a white baby oh and I have another one coming and then ill have 1 left ... I think ill have a good hatch rate

but the babys are healthy and walking around
So exciting for you!!! Awesome news!

Its the most scary day. It is so hard to put them outside. I had tears when I moved the original flock out, I was so afraid for them. Its ok to go out and check, I did it a LOT. I still go out there several times a night, and just peek in to see they are ok. Be glad when we get the camera setup in. The coop looks awesome, nice job! I bet they love it

Very nice! They will have plenty of room too. how exciting!

Quiet day, finally! No losses, and my birds are all pretty content. Lots of mealies, extra treats and a lot of cuddling on my geese. Every bird I have outdoors is housed in the big coop, its a fortress. My 4 guinea are still in their flight pen, or they will start fights with Red my GLW roo. Not selling, or hatching until the breeds are separated again. We are setting up electric fencing for all of the coops now.
jsummers, thanks so much for the bait, you rock girly!!!

Already got one coon in the trap and a snare too

Starting to feel like I am gaining control of my land again. I have learned to never get too relaxed and assume that "it won't happen here" because it does, and it will. I am fortunate that I only lost one of my original flock, squawk, one of my muscovy hens. We have lost close to 20 of this years babies, just makes me sick. Squawk is top left. Next clockwise is Donald, Stanley and Huey. Stanley is our only drake.

My first pekin has pipped!!!

can't wait to see the babies

Jchncy: not really just said they never where bred and how to hold them and show them my dad is letting me keep all that hatch

Glad he is, that's wonderful, your Dad is a really great guy IMO (In My Opinion). I am so glad you got to watch them hatch, that's just so amazing to see! Be sure to post baby pictures when you can. I have just got to hatch this year too, so we are in the same situation. Its exciting every time. Your 4H leader will be able to help you as far as showing. Don't be afraid to keep hatching. If you choose to sell your chicks, just be honest and tell people exactly what they are. WTG you have done a great job!
