I am catching up on posts and haven't read them all, but from my resources 68 degrees is the lowest temperature for four week old chicks.Success! We have the chicken enclosure finished and in use:

Next question, they are just over four weeks old now, what's the lowest temperature that they can be exposed to? We're going to have some cool nights and don't want to hurt them.
A couple of weeks ago I almost stepped on a black snake that was heading to my chicken coop. I nearly had a heart attack. My husband launched it into the weeds but I know it's still out there. I guess I should look into that thing. Makes me weak just thinking about it thoughSally- yes. I should've given more info. It said if you have snake problems to use a push trap to catch snakes and ever coupe should have one! We had a 6 ft black snake last year( didnt have chickens yet) but if your having a big problem it would be easy to use.
I hope it works.... Probably just depends on the hen. I've heard of hens pecking at the little newcomers and I've heard of hens taking babies right in. I have a hen right now with a little chick under her wing that doesn't belong to her. I'd like to know how it goes!Quick question. I got my silkies today and they are younger then expected (2-3 days old). Can I put them under my broody hen who is sitting on nothing now? Will she raise them? If so how? I just don't wanna have to do the whole heat lamp thing again if I don't gotta.

I am not a fan of snakes, but black snakes are 'gold'. I will take yours off your hands if you need.A couple of weeks ago I almost stepped on a black snake that was heading to my chicken coop.
