congrats!
Quote: I doubt I will EVER get anything else off craigslist. The calf experience has really hit me hard, and the piglet we lost a few months ago too.
If its not from one of us here, or a known breeder I am done with the heart ache.
I do love my Bourbon red turkey pair, they are beautiful and just huge. The owner was right here in pendleton.
My oldest DD snuck them in on me!
My Meyers catalog came today and was shocked to see they added legbars this year! It doesn't list price so I'm curious to see what they cost. They also added olive eggers. Even though I have the birds to make them myself, may just have to order some of them!

Scratch that, not paying $10 for a pullet olive egger lol.
If I can ever get a true line of AMs, I plan to do some olive eggers. I already have the marans!
Colorful eggs is a big hobby for me, and very popular around here too.
Am wondering when the hens will start laying. They hatched July 4th.
I have to stop my "want list" tho or I will be out of room! I need to devote a weekend to processing

A white rock pullet

I wish colored eggs were popular around here. I know a lit if people who wont eat colored eggs.

Does anyone in the Indy area know if you still have to get a permit to have chickens? I was told by a neighbor that a few years ago, a friend of his was told she had to get one, and she paid $12 or something and never had any more issues with the city. BUT, I was also told my someone with chickens that they have never had to get a permit... Thoughts? Is it a grandfather clause kinda thing?
Call your code enforcement or animal control to get the facts. I know several members are in Indy and keep them

ETA congrats, glad it was OK!

Brad, thats great! One seller we both use always sends a lot of extras. I have seen both ways.
Kiniska you are so right! I still believe most people really mean well.

I got another giant egg from my #5 chicken. The last giant one one a double yolker so I'm sure this one will be too. She laid one normal jumbo sized egg between the two. She is still new to the laying so I'm hoping the giant double yolkers stop soon. Those can't be set after all.
No eggs from my two just started laying hatchery hens today. Maybe tomorrow. I keep checking and checking to make sure none of the birds are eating the eggs.
I think waiting for them to lay is harder than the hatching part!
Some of my march hatch girls are finally laying..EE's!
Nice to see more than one blue or green egg!

6 hours......what is going on in Indiana? Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
Hehe, no kidding, I am so far behind Its taking forever to catch up

I am sooooo sorry for all the posts

Jchny - I just felt sick when I read about your cows! That is so sad and so unethical. I just wish there were good methods of protecting animals and to prosecute the scum of the earth people. How could a human look at those sweet animal babies and be so heartless! I am so sorry!

CCCHICKENS-- Here's the piano I just ordered for Nene. I thought the colored keys might be helpful since chickens see colors well. I'll keep you posted as I develop her curriculum.

I cannot say thank you enough to everyone's well wishes.

I feel proud to be a part of such a large group of thoughtful and caring friends.
I feel so horrible for them. I am giving them pepto for the stomach cramping and pain. Its really helped them not be so uncomfortable.
Have been carefully washing them to remove any soiling, warm water and a few drops of dawn dish soap. LOTS of bedding changes to keep them clean and dry.
I am really burning through our stash of hay

Will be getting more this weekend.
OH MY! This is going to be so awesome! i bet you could place a BOSS on each key to start her out, and she can pick away to an easy tune!

Hello everyone, I'm still in Indy at my older daughter's. If I would have read the thread earlier I might have contacted lilmizscareall about getting some eggs. Tomorrow I'm going to Bloomington to pick up my other daughter for thanksgiving break. It's apparent on this thread that thanksgiving is near with all the talk about light meat and dark meat. I prefer the discussions about pasta and egg dishes. I miss my pet chickens. My husband sent this photo of them to me today.

you know they miss their mom too.
