INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Note to self: make sure the tractor will start before building a coop in the garage! My plan was to drag it out with the tractor, but since it wouldn't start I was left with using a 2 wheel dolly and a piece of PVC. Definitely not something I want to move again by myself!

That being said, Im already for the chickens! Picking them up tomorrow after work!
I also would like pictures. I'm glad to wait till you can include the chickens.

All the girls and the 9-week old baby made it through the night. Hooray!
The furry children in the house are another story. This is the look they gave me when I suggested they go outside to potty...

As if they are saying "No, thanks--we prefer to stare OUT at the cold."
pginsber ~ Awww It's Dog Week on the Thread! Yours remind me of our "beagle"-mix RIP. Very sweet picture.
Farker Farms & Darth Layer ~ You both have great looking dogs! What a coincidence that you have the same breeds in black. Gorgeous.
Oooh yes DO GO to the Bloomington show! That is in my backyard! We have one in March and one in September.
Sorry to just jump in here like I belong;-)
Great list racinchickins!! I have only had chickens for three years and still have a lot to learn, but I jumped right in and now have six silkie pens, a d'uccle pen, and a small flock of egglayers consisting of Ameraucanas, FBCM, barred rocks, and a pair of white leghorns. They are all together now and I separate them in the spring for hatching;-)

pipd~ Great photos of your beauties, as usual!

kabhyper ~ I loved your comparison of putting an apron on your diva Lavender to putting a sweater on a cat! So funny and true! I agree with danad that you should video it. You don’t mind shooting a video in arctic temps, do you?

hogster posted: They are Cornish cross. But I fed them ff and I let them free range from about 10 days old. I would put them by my layers so they could learn how to forage. And forage they did! Every day they ran around my 2 acres and into they field behind mine. They would come running if they saw you. My daughter took a video on her phone, wonder how I get it posted here from her phone? I suppose if you let them be what they are, chickens, they won’t just sit there waiting to eat. They each had their own personalities. Funny funny birds. They grew slower but stronger. Stronger hearts and legs. None died from flipping, basically heart just stopping. And none had leg issues. Just big happy healthy birds. So yes, I am very excited to try them. I wanted them to have a better life than the ones I used to buy in a store have. And they did, I’m going to miss them.
hogster ~ That’s a wonderful example of how you cared for your “meaties.” You ought to share that if there’s a Cornish thread. As far as the video, I think you have to upload it to youtube because the files would be too large to post.

HouseKat ~ Ugh--Terrible forecast! Will this ice ever end? I hadn’t heard of Moe. I use my Weather Channel app on my phone all the time. I don’t know why when it’s always the bearer of bad news! Btw, did you find a coop for your poor chickens who survived a roof cave-in?

I think I have popped in from time to time. It is hard for me to keep up on threads - there are so many interesting ones! But thanks so much Mother2Hens! I shall make more of an effort to stay on top of this one.

I think its warmer in my coop than my house. Maybe i should sleep with my flock. Lol
I have to keep replacing the frozen water so I know my coop is not warm. RK is having some heated water bowls on sale this week. I was thinking of getting some but then I really would prefer to move the water out of the coop. Still the ducks are the only ones using my run right now. Everyone else just peaks out for a minute. Even the ducks don't stay out for very long.

It is actually sunny and not frigid here today! I got the animals to emerge from the barn for the first time in a few days.
The girls found the sunshine.

Apparently a barking jack russell is extremely interesting.

The coop looks like crap, but it is staying warm in there.
