INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Well I just went out and checked the beasties. This is what Harmony Lane looks like at midnight during a snowstorm.

They didn't love the camera...

Ohh and after about killing myself moving the coop out by hand, I picked up some starting fluid today to see if I could get the tractor started. I took off air filter and figured I'd give if a try before spraying any starter fluid. First crank and she started right up! Figures lol

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you are never made to feel that way here, and please let M2H, Brad or I know if you ever do!
We are all here for the same reason, we love our birds and want the best possible care for them we can provide.
I hope everyone knows that we really care about each other and its ok to have different opinions, live in different areas. it doesn't matter.
Its great to know someones there to help us care for our birds. We have so many members with years of experience that help.
For that I am grateful

Guys, my Dad is home! They released him today!
He is a candidate for the new surgery. So now we wait, his valve is larger than normal so he is on a waiting list.
2 more tests and see the Dr the 24th,
Kidneys are a concern, he may be on dialysis soon

We are buying his and hers wheelchairs so I can transport both to appts alone.
Probably will need a chairlift soon.

Ugh! While I'm glad we only got about 3" of snow overnight, still a pain to care for the chickens! And of course I stepped on some left over metal siding and fell right on my butt while carrying out water! Lol. I was wet. Thankfully the waterers weren't very frozen. Just the very top, more like a thick slushy.

Just curious, how well do LF Cochins fly? I'm hoping they aren't able to fly over the 4 ft fence. I didn't get the netting up in time (meaning I forgot to buy it lol).

My Fierce Hen
I just have a few minutes before I have to leave for a meeting, but something funny just happened. The utility guy has to walk through the hens’ fenced-in area to read the meter. I happened to see him looking like he was afraid of my EE. I stuck my head out of the door and said that she wouldn’t hurt him. He repied, “Word is that one of them is aggressive!” Ha! I told him that they were just hens. I know what he’s referring to-- one time Nene, my infamous RIR, chased one of the guys down the hill! That guy thought she was a rooster!

Btw, still waiting on Nene’s piano. It has shipped, at least.

Also, I got a beautiful green-blue egg from my EE today! She hasn’t laid for a couple of months

That is hilarious!

I had to make time to take pictures of my babies this afternoon, of course! They are 7 months old today!

Alright, I'm embarrassed of these pictures lol. I took them right before dark with my cell phone. Uploaded to my iPad and WOW they are horrible! But I figured I'd post them anyways.

Where did you get all your silkies? I'd like to see a better (closer) pic of your silver partridge (or gray maybe?) roo...

Bad and Kab- love all the pics. They all look so pretty.

M2h- love the story!! Did he believe you or was he still scared?

Big night here last night. My neighbor across the road, house burned down. It's a total loss. She was at work and the granddaughter that she has custody of was at home. Apparently she lit a candle. They had a cockatoo , she was in the main room of the fire, endless to say didn't make it. They had to cut the power to her house so now there's no water for her other animals, chickens, peacocks ,pheasants, llamas and alpacas. What a mess.

Brad did you get the chickens from that lady that was moving to LaFayette? I was trying to make arrangements to get a couple silkies from that lady but the postal service said would be expensive and dangerous to send adult birds so I backed out for the safety of them. If those are the ones you got I'm glad you got them! I am serious that I would like a mating pair of White Silkies in the spring, after I get some "herd thinning" done. If you will please keep me in mind. Those pics aren't that bad! You have beautiful birds!

It is safe to use the USPS to ship birds, I have shipped and received. Not as expensive as you'd think, sounds like your PO didn't want to deal with it.
Geez, didn't mean to hijack the thread....this is busier than the silkie thread and that is saying something!
Here are a few pics of my birds...the grays came from the famous Donna McCormick. She had the best grays out there, had been breeding them for twenty years. The whites are my favorite though, and why I got into silkies;-)
