My birds had a bad night. They were doing so well, then it got REALLY cold last night. All my roos don't look so good. Swollen combs and wattles. They had plenty of ventilation, and not a lot of drafts, but it was just too cold. I have the worst of them in the basement now to wait out the rest of the cold snap, but it is definitely a case of too little, too late. btw..hens and turkeys are just fine. Turkeys even slept outside last night.

my production roos that I had last winter got swollen combs that healed by themselves so it might not be too late.

I know how ya feel, I have 5 hens inside with frost bite. my youngest.

Our road for the last two days.... we just got our vehicles home. The truck buried in the middle of the road is a neighbors. I'm sure that didn't help any plowing efforts. Apparently Whitley county (our county) gets the award for the most snow in the state from the storm at 16.2 inches.

I'm not sure what was on the ground before. It's a lot though.

Looks a lot like my driveway. Its been so cold the tractor won't start, so I had to shovel all 650 ft by hand. I just finished, and I'm so sore I think I'm gonna collapse.

DH and I did our drive by hand only to have it get drift covered during that night. Then with the frigid temps yesterday neither of us touched the drive. DH did half of it again today but thankfully a plow stopped by and helped him finish.

My cat is on a prescription diet and failed to buy more before the storm. Thankfully I'm friends on Facebook with one of the techs at the office and she was able to set some out for me since they are closed Tuesdays! Sigmund will be happy here in a bit to get his full serving of food since I was skimping on him to try to make it till wed, but that wasn't going to happen lol. He has also found the fodder and I've been waking up to "grassballs" (instead of hairballs) around the house. Yuck!

I also have 3 pet quaility silkies looking for new homes. They either have straight combs, incorrect # of toes, or both. Get with me if anyone is interested.

Has anyone had issues with a beard on chick be too big? I have a chick that seems extra fluffy and his beard keeps getting stuck in his eye, causing them to become crusty and stuck shut. I've trimmed them and started some eye drops I got from the vet the last time I had this happen. I've only had this eye issue with silkies and seems like their beard is what's causing the eye irritation.
