INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

So I was looking at Ideals breeds and noticed that their modern game bantams are already sold out till 2015! So on my most recent order, I asked them if any were available despite what their website said. They said that they weren't happy with any of their 2014 breeders, so decided not to offer them this year! I thought that was interesting that they would rather loose money and not offer them than to sell subpar birds. Of course they could have all gotten sick and died or something, but still thought that was interesting.

I like how they do their shipping charges too. Very fair.

Glad to see there are Indiana BYCers here! :) How has everyone be doing with the cold? Total of 17 inches and slowly climbing here in the Fort Wayne area.

Welcome! I'm just south of ft Wayne in Huntington county. What'd chickens do you have? Based off your username, I'm assuming you have reptiles too? I used to have a lot of reptiles!

very very fair! I just ordered a dozen blue Cochin pullets and will cull down to the best ones until I can get some eggs, chicks, or pullets from a breeder.

Welcome! I am not too far from you. I am located outside of Bluffton.

Ahhh yes, I have had a bearded dragon since I was a kid. I have 3 Ameraucanas, 5 Barred Rocks, and 3 Golden Comets. They're great birds, and great layers! I have 2 Ameraucana chicks that my neighbor gave me. (He has a roo and I let him borrow my Ameraucana for a brood.) Lost one of my comets last night due to the cold, but found out the vent was blocked by snow.

I have never owned a bearded dragon, have considered it before. I used to have a chinese water dragon. Sorry to hear about your comet.

Anyone on here near Richmond, that wants to sell some eggs? I have a friend who wants some of ours but we are a couple of hours away. All of the eggs are out in our grocery store. Apparently its that way in a lot of places.

Very nice! I started out with a Beardie and that let to over 100 reptiles. I was mainly into blue tongue skinks and crested geckos the last several years. I'm currently reptile less but been thinking of getting a couple cresties or biting the bullet and getting a star tortoise.

I got my first set of numbered bands from meyer, my next set from cutlers,

The leg bands work much like the slap bracelets.  They are not too hard to get on or off.  If they are too loose the chickens can get them off.  They do not do great in extreme cold.  I had one snap in half.

I have used the toe punch once now.  I'm not sure I like it yet.  the chick's feet have to be cleaned at least once a day to keep the nasty stuff out of the hole.  It was easy enough to punch on the 3 day old chick though.  I would not be able to use the toe punch on a fully grown chicken though as the webbing is too thick.

Editing to add I got my chicks from Ideal, and they are looking great.  The box arrived much sooner than I expected.  When I had ordered from OH it would ship in Monday and show up on Thurs.  But this time the chicks came from TX with a ship date of Wed and arrived Thurs.  The chicks were sent out late Tuesday night, instead of Wed morning but still the travel time was less than coming from OH.
i must have missed you placed an ideal order! What did you get?
Yes we want to know what you ordered from Ideal... So we will know what we are missing out on. Lol
