INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Guess I like orpingtons more than I thought. I have a buff orpington already (she's not super friendly but she's good enough) but now I want a lavender orpington, jubilee orpington, and frizzle buff orpington.

I dreamed about a frizzle last night.  *sigh*

People rave about their orpingtons!  What makes them special?

Orpingtons are amazing little plump feathered beauties! Look up the breed/ google it! Lol you'll see.

Thanks for all the info on small zip/cable ties. I bought some larger ones from lowes and found very thin smaller lengths from the dollar tree. I also bought some of those rubber/latex/silicone hair bands to see if I'd like them. I do not lol. I probably would if they were the right side, but I have to wrap them around the leg twice and it's just awkward to do so and uncomfortable for the chicks. So I'll stick with zip ties for now.

Quote: I think they slow the eggs laid first and the majority of the eggs in the nest hatch closer to 21 days from the last egg laid.

I wonder what the cashier thought when you were buying the hair bands. I'm sorry you did not like them.

Okay, I'm catching up again! Here we go!
Rangi the Ancona and her poor, frostbitten wattles:
Lovely birds, hard to believe looking at them now, they were just babies a few months ago. They grow up too fast!
Waaay too fast! :love

:celebrate I'm so happy for you!! Glad to hear Einstein stayed away long enough to avoid catching what the other birds had!
Has anyone seen this picture of a car port coop? How cool is that!?!? I would never have to shovel the run again!!! Putting this idea away for the future....Although I don't think car ports are all that cheap. :(
I saw this on Facebook! Love it! But then, if it was up to me, our garage would be a coop, too.
Hi guys! way behind so will be catching up. If anyone is interested in joining, We do have a Facebook page now! Message Brad, Kab, or myself for an invite. Back later going to catch up!
Me!! Me!! Pick me!! :D

So, for anyone interested in breeder quality Large Fowl Cochins, I have been trying to track some down and found a breeder in Ohio that has some. I might be taking a road trip over there if anyone is interested in tagging along or wants me to bring something back for them. He also seems to have a variety of other breeds including Iowa Blues, Phoenix, Sebrights, BB Red Old English, Bantam Black Rosecombs and Mille Fleure D'Uccles. In the Cochins he has all 7 standard colors (Barred, Buff, Blue ,Black, White, Gold Laced and Silver Laced). He said he has Black, White and Partridge Cochin hens available now. I've asked ages and prices :) PM me if you want his contact info or want to jump on my bandwagon.

I have blues, blacks, and splashes.

I really want splashes! And lavendars & blues. I have buffs and Brad hatched a lavendar roo, lavendar/lemon cross roo (very pretty) and lemon pullet for me (we were actually going for all lavendars, but this is what came from the eggs he had gotten!). The lemon is so much prettier than the buff. She's a lot fluffier than my hatchery girls.

goatluver ~ I think I hay have misunderstood your question about me posting on CL about Jubilees-- I thought you were asking if that's how I got mine, but when I just re-read it, I think that maybe you were asking if I currently have an ad on CL about wanting Jubilees. So-- Sorry for my usual long-winded story about my Orpingtons! lol

Here's another one (of my long stories): When I first started on this thread a year ago, it seemed like everyone was Lavender Orpington crazy, and I eventually decided that I wanted one because I love the lavender-gray color and everyone said that Orps are gentle and sweet. The ones that I got at chickenscratchpoultry.com's farm were skittish, but I think a lot of that has to do with how they're raised as chicks. Obviously if the owners were too busy to keep track of hatches, they didn't have much time for individual interaction with chicks. When I got my Choc. Orp., Bonbon, there later, she was real laid back, but when she met my Jubilee who was skittish, then Bonbon took cues from her that she should be wary. Now that I have given them daily attention, they are much more relaxed and I think that kind of relaxed is where their breed is showing through. They're acting more like they're supposed to. It also seemed like since they both started laying around a month ago, they have mellowed out more, too.

For the past few months I guess, many thread members have talked about how great Cochins are -- LF or bantam. It seems like more people have been in favor of Cochins over Orps, saying how they loved to be picked up and are sweet and funny. So, I have an order in with bradselig for two LF Cochins for around March 9th, when daylight savings time begins. I'd really like a frizzle of something sometime, but bradselig indicated that it might be difficult to get a Cochin Frizzle hatching egg.

Orpingtons or Cochins? Input please.
