INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Just a forewarning. Sometimes cochins have fertility problems since they have so much fluff.

Yes, I've heard you have to trim their butt fluff if you are going for fertility :)

I received my cheepers from Brad on Friday. After realizing my camera phone was broken, it turned out to be operator error so I am finally able to share some pics of them!

Here is my home made brooder with eco-glow heater

And here are a couple shots of the little guys

Hopefully I can get some better shots when I take them out to clean. They are Birchen Marans. So far I'm thinking it is 1 girl, 2 boys because one is feathering out much faster and the other two seem to have a bit more comb. I'm happy as long as there is 1 girl in there! I'll probably keep a girl and a boy and re-home the other boy in a few weeks (once I am more certain of genders). I also heard back from Akers Hatchery (who I called looking for a couple more chicks to keep these guys company). They are going to start hatching in Feb. I'll probably get a couple Lavender Orps and a Frizzle from them once these guys move to bigger quarters :) As long as these three don't talk me out of ever having chicks in the house again. So far it hasn't been bad except I had to bump my heat up way past where I am comfortable. I can't wait until I can turn it down again. It is downright tropical in here.

Thinking I have the itch.

I am strongly considering hatching out my own chicks so I started making my own incubator. Is it crazy or is it normal to think this way? To have delusions of chickens running through my yard all spring and into summer? Is it normally crazy for one to start incubating so deep into winter?

There's therapy for that, you know.

She wont raise babies and when she goes broody she will starve herself, and she wants to kill the other chickens, I'm done she is gone.
BTW ChickCrazed, Linus, ( how can I say this ) is a real go getter!! all the way home he was gettin and this morning when I put him out he was at it in 5 minutes... lol

Never saw any kilts, among the olders but my son-in-law used to wear his quite frequently while shopping in the city in Toronto. He was in his 20's a couple years ago. And I don't think a Scot at all.

I'm glad they are settling in! Yes, mean broody needs to go. You gave her plenty of time to turn herself around. Linus is a typical hormonal teenager :) I never checked for fertility on my eggs, but I have no doubt he was doing his job very thoroughly. I bet the barred rock will leave on her own at some point. They are pretty feisty. The EE you may need to go manually kick out the door or put food and water inside for the first day or so. They are more wallflowers initially.

So cute! Your brooder looks nice, too. Have they or will they kick much mess out the side with the window? I might try to do something similar with my set up.

Too Fast posted: LOL about the crunchy housewife! Not me, it's the wife! I'm not crunchy!!!!!!! John is way more crunchy then me. I've met you also, racin, and you aren't crunchy. You are more laid back, even if it took you 6 hours to get the water up to temp for the plucking J/K .

Just a clarification, in my old days at IU, I was a hippie (we all were), but then the term "crunchy" replaced hippie-- around the 80s as I recall. So, if racin is more laid back, he is crunchy.

I'm sure leslea's DH will fit right in . . . except
along those lines, I'm still looking for a "crunchy" chicken and child sitter. It would be great to get away for 24 hours.
