INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Ah all this talk about chicks makes me anxious for next month!! I've got 15 Cornish X, 3 salmon favorell, and 3 light brown leghorns coming the end of Feb!!! :) Of course there's still more breeds on my wish list ;)

SOOO glad the weather is warmer today! The chickens nearly knocked me over trying to get out when I opened the coop this morning!

Do frizzle chickens fly? I have a bantam frizzle (cochin I believe) that doesn't seem to
fly/jump at all. Shes not injured, shes always been this way. Part of their run has a small divider, maybe 20 inches tall, to keep the pekins separate. All the other bantams hop/fly right up and over but she won't. My bantams have a roost bar in their coop but most don't use it. I normally see them sleeping in a pile on the floor.

Just curious if anyone else sees their frizzle chickens fly at all? I wondered if the funky feathers kept them from flying?

Barred Rock pullets, Easter Eggers, Khaki Campells, and blue sweedish for me. I just had to get a blue duck or five since the blue is really a 1 in 3 chance of getting a blue duckling with the splash and black odds taken into account.
I think we all love Barred rocks. My old girl passed on, but still have my Dominique. she is a sweet heart.

My frizzle don't fly,

Hi Everyone,

Its been a few days since I've been able to be on (thanks to a teenager using up all our monthly bandwidth, but that's another story). I still haven't heard the update from Perdue, but I will let you all know as soon as I find out. Right now they think its either a strain of Marek's or Blackhead disease which normally doesn't affect chickens like it did. She also had parasites, so I have treated my group with Rooster Booster as suggested.

Yesterday had so many bright spots, but getting a call from Mother2Hens to meet and meeting bradselig, were right at the top. What a great surprise

. It did nothing to slow down my desire for more chicks though. I'm still trying to figure out a safe solution to that, but need more facts first.

I saw a question about the Mother Earth News Gardening app. Here's what I know. The pc version is free for the first 30 days and then about $25 per year. I might use it for a couple of years until I get this thing down a bit more. I was looking at their apps in the iTunes app store and that's where I found that there is an iPad app for $9.99. Its much less than the PC version, but I don't know if that means it has less features or not. As I have already paid for the PC version, it would just be annoying to find out I could have done it for less. Mine is a mini anyway, so its probably not as much fun to use as a large one when planning a garden. They also have a fun little app called PickinChicken that can give you a quick rundown on different breeds. I bought it before I found out that all of you can pretty much do the same thing

and in a more fun way. I really like the reviews of breeds available here, but it seems that everyone is in love with their own particular breed!!!

OK, I have to get off the computer before I get charged some crazy fee for overages. I really miss having something more than satellite internet!!

I want to send a BIG thank you to everyone who met me today on my chicken run! I had 5 stops total! Also thank you to Sally (LAM) for the beautiful blue and black showgirls! I love the little frizzle girl!it was wonderful meeting mother2hens, wheezy, amlambson (I think that is her username lol, typically talk with her on Facebook), and it was great seeing Janet and Sally again!
bradselig ~ I understand that you visited so many attractive women that your head was spinning, but don't forget that you got to meet CRSelvey (Cheryl) who lives in Greencastle when she and little Savannah stopped by the convenience store cafe on the highway by "The Lounge." haha

M@H- Congrats on your chicks. Did that double your flock size?
Almost! I have my four mean original hens: RIR, BR, SLW, EE and my two sweet LF and bantam orps, which makes 6.
I have three new silkie chicks and will get two LF orp chicks this weekend, which makes eleven total: 7 LF and 4 bantams

There is a chance that I could end up with roo(s). My son already thinks that the bossiest silkie is a roo. ha! If I end up with roos, I believe that both bradselig and Kiniska said I could return them and hope for a replacement if possible. However, they both think that the chicks are likely girls.

I still need to catch up to the posts later -- I have so much to do as a new mother! haha
