A friend of mine has a big incubator listed on the South Bend craigslist. I don't know anything about incubator models, but thought I'd pass this on....

Thats very similar to the one I am getting next month!
Very good price too.

Thanks to Browncow15 for forcing me to get on!
Gosh...I haven't been on in Forever! I miss chatting! My phone app stopped working so I've just been reading! Holidays just kicked my butt! So much to do with 4 kids and all the "Stuff" to do to clear out space for all the new things our huge family spoils them with! Geez!

Getting so pumped..as I'm sure so many of you are...Spring will be here before you know it and babies babies babies! Can't wait!
***Looking for a few silkies if anyone has more available.***

If anyone recalls...my last silkie pullet that disappeared never returned...so I'm certain she was snatched up by something! I have a little lone roo. Lost my Sizzle hen to the cold and another little cock to a coon or opossum! Blah..and none of the 3 eggs I incubated were viable. Sigh!! My dog however has managed to kill 2 opossums in the past several months and ran off a hawk a few times! Hasn't stopped it though...I've had 4 in the past month just picked off during the day, 3 of them were cockerals....so I'm certain it was the hawk, they were all smaller since they were younger. I've been debating on buying a Pyr or LGD of some sort to live outside with them as our dog lives inside, even though he's a wonderful protector he's not outside all of the time to man a full time job!

I am super pumped that I managed to find homes for all my little boys and big boys! Now I have my lone 2 LF's for breeding and getting my projects started back up! BCM and Olive Eggers! I have managed to keep all of my bantam cochins which I adore! All of my girls are starting up some serious laying. Getting about 13 eggs a day...on average 8! One of my little pullets I hatched back in July/Aug started laying this week and it is the cutest darn little dark egg ever! She's a mix of my SLW and BCM! I really didn't expect it to be so dark but it is! Love those dark eggs! I never truly thought there was so much truth to the difference in their eggs but my family sure can. I love to bake with them, I've found that's where I really can tell the difference.

Anyways, happy hatching!

PS, Yesterday was my first 5 egg day!!
Congrats!
Hi Everyone,

Its been a few days since I've been able to be on (thanks to a teenager using up all our monthly bandwidth, but that's another story). I still haven't heard the update from Perdue, but I will let you all know as soon as I find out. Right now they think its either a strain of Marek's or Blackhead disease which normally doesn't affect chickens like it did. She also had parasites, so I have treated my group with Rooster Booster as suggested.

Yesterday had so many bright spots, but getting a call from Mother2Hens to meet and meeting bradselig, were right at the top. What a great surprise

. It did nothing to slow down my desire for more chicks though. I'm still trying to figure out a safe solution to that, but need more facts first.

I saw a question about the Mother Earth News Gardening app. Here's what I know. The pc version is free for the first 30 days and then about $25 per year. I might use it for a couple of years until I get this thing down a bit more. I was looking at their apps in the iTunes app store and that's where I found that there is an iPad app for $9.99. Its much less than the PC version, but I don't know if that means it has less features or not. As I have already paid for the PC version, it would just be annoying to find out I could have done it for less. Mine is a mini anyway, so its probably not as much fun to use as a large one when planning a garden. They also have a fun little app called PickinChicken that can give you a quick rundown on different breeds. I bought it before I found out that all of you can pretty much do the same thing

and in a more fun way. I really like the reviews of breeds available here, but it seems that everyone is in love with their own particular breed!!!

OK, I have to get off the computer before I get charged some crazy fee for overages. I really miss having something more than satellite internet!!
Ugh satellite, been there done that! Hope you get all the info back soon!
my chicks and ducklings got here. Most of the chicks are made the trip well but the ducklings not so much. This weather is just hard on them.

OH no! Did you lose the ducklings?

So good to see you! There is likely someone that can hook you up on a few silkies!
I am looking at LGDs too, I want a Pyrenees but may go with an aussie.

Quote: all but 2 and those were the ones for a friend. I'm glad they were the ones that made it though. I called today, but they want to wait and see if any of the chicks don't make it till Monday morning. Then they can request a reshipment all at once. While I feel bad for the ducklings of course, I really dislike that the USPS can't get them here alive the first time. It means a delay in when I start getting more duck eggs.

I have a bunch of pictures. :D

My little roommate, Rosie. She's feeling much better and spending more time outside of her pen than in ( ), but I hesitate to take her back outside until it gets at least a little warmer.

And Rosie's sister, Amy, who is wondering why she couldn't go inside for the subzero weather. They're both Golden Sebrights.

Margie the Silkie:

Ihi the Golden Campine, who is molting now. She's almost 9 months old. I've never had a bird go into a full-blown molt before they were a year old. Although, I have heard of it happening, so I guess it's not totally out of the question.

What beautiful birds !!! I love Merlins picture !!

Well, I knew having 3 roosters with 17 chickens this time would come. We've taken two out and put them in the brooder...24 sq'. Its in the un-heated garage so they should be fine temp wise. Only planning on keeping one. The hormones have started, the crowing is getting out of control, and my hens are getting hurt. I've had 2 with bloody combs in the last 3 days. And...the hens are now laying 0 eggs. The girls are not happy. I was really hoping to only have to get rid of one, but 2 are not nice so they both go. Hubby is going to do the deed for me, and I'll help clean them up. Not looking forward to this.

So happy to hear everyone is getting chick fever! I won't be getting any chicks this spring. 17 is good for my coup size. But I am getting excited for everyone else! Who knows, maybe I'll have another broody!
