They really do! Very stylish chickens.
chick rookie ~ I'm picking up my two English Orp LF chicks tomorrow from Kiniska and I'm planning to raise them with the three Silkies from bradselig, so I'll let you know how that goes.while I have you here ... it is official ... Big Man gets his own house with 3 Cochin hens...DH has gone COCHIN crazy... says I should have nothing but!!!! That aint going to happen... but I see my 2 ac free range dropping and new fences up in my near future ..This coming from a man that said " I just don't get why on earth you want chickens??"![]()
And I want to thank Brad... he wants Silkies too, he wanted to put them in the same Big Man house... I don't know if that would be such a good ideal???? they are so small and Cochin's are so big...
and check out my biggens...
aint they so cute sitting up there like a couple of biggins...![]()
Update: This morning they were on the opposite side of their brooder away from the lamp, so I changed to a lower wattage ceramic heat emitter, which is nice because it's just heat with no light. There's a whole wall of windows in that bedroom, so they get a lot of natural light during the day along with artificial light when needed. The Silkies are interesting because they seem to look at you in the eyes and really study you. I think they need some toys.Warm and fuzzy in the brooder
Since this chicken transaction happened so quickly, I am reading and refreshing my memory about caring for chicks. Brad said they're going to be 3 weeks old this weekend, so I read that the warmest area of the brooder should be 80 degrees for that age. They seem to like it! It's funny how chicks just conk out and suddenly pop up awake and walking around.
