Announcement: My two new English Orpington chicks from Kiniska joined my three Silkie chicks from bradselig!!! :weee I had the pleasure of finally meeting Kiniska and her DH today!!! I am so thankful to be the proud owner of her two chicks that hatched from her hen. I need to look up when the hatch was because I kept forgetting to ask! When I got home, I re-did the large dog kennel for their brooder since I could tell that the 40 gal. aquarium was already too small for the silkies from bradselig. I put the orps in the kennel first, and then added the silkies so it wasn't like the silkies' space was invaded (I'm thinking of the method for dogs and cats- haha). The orps stood still statues while the curious silkies looked them over and softly pecked them (probably wondering if they were real!) The dark orp stood in front of the splash orp. Within a few minutes they were eating around the feeder together like old friends! (low-res youtube link below) After I got the chicks settled, I went outside with my hens for two hours. When I came back in, the chicks were in a pile sleeping. So sweet! My son, Max, (age 27) and his GF came over for dinner and they loved holding them to help them get used to people. It was great meeting you as well. You are a very sweet person Julie. So glad they are all doing well.

Broke up with my bf cuz he cheated on me :'( ugh this year is not going good at all cuz I'm also sick to were I cant eat little to any food or it'll come back up hope everyone is staying warm
I am sorry to hear that! It is really upsetting and painful to go through a break-up. I'm sure you know inside that you deserve to be treated better, but it is really hard to think clearly when you've been hurt so deeply. It is true that it takes time to feel better again. We're your friends here on the thread, and we think you're a good person who has a lot of natural talent with animals. Maybe after you get some of the anger and hurt out of your system, you'll feel better if you focus on something that is rewarding to you-- like an upcoming 4H project or maybe you could volunteer a few hours a week at a farm or animal related place.

But for now, take it one day at a time. Get some exercise, take hot showers, and try to eat.

I am still behind on the thread! I was so excited last night that I kept waking up.
I need to come down off of Cloud 9.

I'm so jealous of your new orpington babies. In case they end up not getting along with your silkies just send them my way!

Quote: LOL he looks tired. I bet he works a lot of hours prolly too much, Its the Mom thing, I know u know what I mean.
Quote: The black silkie is still soo tiny, and very social. Hoping its a hen, talks a lot.
This BBW turkey hen has had issues before. I need to just inject the tylan.
She is more like a standard breed size and build, and is very sweet.
We named her Snow. she is sweet enough to earn a name.
Here's the "End Result" lol this is Mutt & Jeff cant tell what breed ( other than 1/2 HRIR ) I'm thinking though momma may have bn one of my young Sexlinks.

I'm beat.
I've been getting ready for my DD's, 2nd birthday party all day(as well as working)... Made a cake, from scratch, which ended up looking like a total disaster. I only got to spend a few minutes with the flock today. They are so happy to be back outside, as am I, that today I FINALLY saw my Roo "do the deed"...
I tried not to watch, only because it was slightly embarrassing... Ha ha!
So my question is this: Is it common for them to be amourous without there ever being an egg laid???
Just curious,
Annie

Love seeing all the egg posts. Hope it means the long egg drought is coming to am end.

On the same lines - I got 9 eggs yesterday!! My previous record was 7. Just shows you what 30 hens of laying age can do when they put their minds to it. Lol. They are probably exhausted now and I'll only get an egg or two today.

While getting ready for work I hear banging in the garage. Go out and find two silkie roos going at it! I get them seperated and notice bloodbon the ones beak. It looks like he has broken his top beak! I didnt have time to clean them or dry them (they ended up in the water dish several times). So i have the one with the broken beak in a temp cage in the house.

The tip of the beak is still attached to the rest of the beak. Do I need to cut it all the way off if its still attached when I get home?

If it is barely attached I would, because it caught on something. I have a rooster thats beak has to be trimmed regurarly, I just have so flour near, incase he starts.
