INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Seriously about to hang it up. I have silkies with lice, a pullet with respiratory issues that needs tylan by mouth, her eyes unsealed every morning, and the rest of the flock is on antibiotics due to exposure to her. I went out to get the only loose sand on the property to give the flocks to bathe in, and it took 3 times as long as it should because all of our gates are frozen shut. I was cleaning of a hens butt this morning because it was caked with poo, only to realize the barn chickens have lice also. Then poor minmin gets her eggs from me today and six of them are broken. All were individually bubble wrapped, in a styro carton with bubble wrap over all of them, the carton then wrapped twice with bubble wrap, layed in a bigger box stuffed tightly with newspaper all around the carton, then taped shut. I put up arrows on the box and live embryos written on the side. How they broke I have no idea, but I feel terrible. Its just one thing after another. Okay rant over.

I think we all feel this way at one time or another.I know I have about 2 1/2 more years, and my youngest will be out of 4-H. and I'm getting rid of everthing but my ducks and geese, they are so much easier !!!!

Seriously don't feel bad!!! They were wrapped so well it had to be USPS handling that did it! At least I still have some to put in the bator! With Luck and Prayers they will hatch out happy healthy pretty little fuzzy butts! Don't give up everyone has issues 90% of which WE have no control over. I appreciate getting the chance to hatch out the eggs I have! Thanks again for your trust and understanding!

I know how you feel! I have fighting roosters luke crazy (all silkies, we need warm temps again to let them out!), rooster with a broken beak, a showgirl pullet who is getting way over bred but wont get along with any other hens I put her with. She is very dominate and I find the other hens huddled in a corner scared, and a lady I sold a young pair of chickens to a month ago both appearantly just died within hours of each other! Add on a poor hatch and im about to wave my flag. Lol.

Have you thought about using the eprinex for parasite control? I think I will be using it here soon once temps get above and stay above freezing.

Your packaging sounds great. Definitely an issue during shipping. id be glad to send replacements to her for you to pay back for the eggs I got from you.

Thanks guys. I'm just frustrated today. I feel like any changes I make to the flocks something bad happens. I won't give up.

Glad to hear it's just frustration talking. I so appreciate the chance to get a Silkie clan started I'm happy with what I've got here. Don't be upset about things that are/ were out of your hands,

Brad, There is no need to send anything to replace the damaged eggs. In no way do I hold them against Kab, she packaged them so well it took me 15 minutes to get to the first egg!!! Was definitely handling issues! I sure do appreciate the offer though and I'm sure Kab does too! You're too sweet! : )

Ok I tried to stay busy today (so I wouldn't keep playing with Silkie Eggs). I drew up my plans for my yard/garden/chicken coop. Going to post what I've done, looking for advice, criticism...whatever. Let me know what you think.

This is a guide so you can figure out the other "drawings". Obviously I've not had any art classes, nor engineering or architecture classes either...lol I do this for my own benefit. Lol
Looks like a very thorough job to me.
Thank you leslea my issue is I've not ever had luck growing veggies and I'm not sure they are in the right locations. I have only one tree on my property as of right now so everything except raised beds by the side porch have all day direct sun. Is there anything you would change... I know I'm asking a lot but I need and appreciate advice. Thanx all!!! By the way my chickens have free range of everything during the day.
