INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We have one my MIL's chicks out of the egg! Its an ee x slw. I looked at them last night and saw an internal pip. The one that hatched was not that egg, so I quickly candled it, and it looks like its feet are in the air cell and it was breathing hard. What does that mean? No external pips though. Maybeim worrying to much.Ashes is a first timer but seems to be doing okay so far. She is so tiny aand has 7 lf eggs under her. I hope she is able to keep hatching humidity levels high enough with allof those eggs.

Helping chicks out of the egg is a tough call. I have found that maybe half of the ones I help make it. Some last longer than others but many times there is a reason why they can't get out. I use an incubator so I'm more inclined to help if something went wrong like a power outage. I don't think I could help a broody hatch an egg though. For me it is a bit harder to watch a chick struggle and finally not make it or have to be put down than to see an egg get an external pip and still not produce a chick.

Nice chicks! Be happy you stayed strong at hobby lobby, you can find a much better deal! I am a frequent hobby lobby goer since I scrapbook and they have 50% off sales on there chicken things a lot. They sometimes have coupons in their add too (in the sunday paper). Scrapbooking stuff is expensive so I have to find the deals lol. And I may have one or two chicken decorations from there (okay 4 lol).

Someone told me a while back about a place to buy organic chicken feed in Indianapolis. I never got over there because of all the bad weather and then forgot the name and location. I could kick myself as searching on here has only turned up Lebanon as a possible source. I think this store was (maybe) in the neighborhood of 50 something and keystone. Not sure. Does anyone have any idea of where this could be?

Muahahaha... I was good yesterday, walked by all the bins, and even looked really hard at the lil sebrights... But I did not buy a single chick.
I did get a pair of steel toe rubber boots finally, Baby Moo (Ribeye) is getting a bit heavy on my toes!

I've been very good as well! Been to Rural King, Big R, and TSC and still haven't purchased any chicks!

Sorry to hear about your RSL. I decided not to buy production birds from hatcheries anymore. They tend to have lot of laying problems and it is just heart breaking, because most of the problems you can't help. I plan on only buying a few easter eggers and hopefully no impulse buys, but I am weak. What all do you have in your order this year?

Production birds in general are a risk, but red sexlinks, with their high egg laying rate, are particularly vulnerable to it, at least from my experience. It's unfortunate, because some of those girls had the best personalities. It's hard to see them go.

This year, I have 2 Black Copper Marans, a Welsummer, and a Silver Gray Dorking ordered from them. :) I'm hoping to add dark eggs to my egg rainbow basket, though I know hatchery Marans can be hit-and-miss on how dark their eggs are. Still, I'll at least be 90% sure they're pullets, so that's a plus. Oh, and I talked with Brad about getting some Cream Legbar pullets around the same time as well. :fl Those 78 days can't go by fast enough!

Pipd~ Sorry about your hen!! :hugs

:hugs I've cried it out now, so I think I'm good. As always, I'm grateful to have people with which I can vent on such topics and not be looked at like I'm crazy. :)
It may be the truth, but still.

I think there may be something wrong with you. Go take your temperature. ;-) Did you see my post about the feet in the air cell? Weird right? Do you think it will hatch? They aren't actually due until tomorrow. We have one little ee wyandotte running around. YAY!

Btw Sally, I won't try to help it, unless it pips and zips the wrong end I may try. I would rather have a chick not make it in the shell, than have to put one down.

A just got a production red for free, along with some others (including way under fed leghorns). Boy does she have an attitude, but a great personality overall. She reminds me so much of a golden comet I used to have. The production red looks like M2H's Nene's long lost sister lol. Comb and everything. Nice order! Honestly I don't even talk to my friends about chickens any more, because I seriously think they get annoyed with. As does most of my family (besides my dad). Everyone on here understands!
