INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

LOL!!! omg that would get me smacked, for sure.

TBH I think he's just had enough of this weather. Haven't we all?

Our new neighbors are really nice. Not sure about their sons. No girls around. Would it be wrong if I did a drive-by of the local 4H in my minivan? "Pssst! Hey, little girl...wanna watch a chicken?"

Headline reads: Local Loony Spends Staycation in County Jail: won't stop asking if someone has fed the chickens.

. (what does TBH stand for). You could ask the neighbors, doesn't have to be a kid. It will be much easier for you to find help. You fill the feeder, change/fill the water, and collect eggs from 6 chickens. I don't think someone would appreciate having to do my chores lol. They would have to go in 7 different pens, open 8 cages, fill 16 feeders, fill 16 waterers, and collect who knows how many eggs. That would make for one interesting paper

Two options I can think of:
1. check the members list for someone close to you. Message a few of them and see if one can help you. Since Bio security is a consideration try to limit it to one other chicken owner. Also maybe try to get a setup in place that only requires a once a day visit. It might not be the most economical but feeding dry food, watering, and locking the birds in the coop might be things that mean only one trip per day.
2. a local vacation spot that is maybe 15-30 minutes away from your home. Then you go and take care of the chicks up to twice a day. You still spend time on the vacation and your DH does not have any feelings of being trapped at home by a bunch of "stupid" chickens. Not too sure what kind of vacations you are interested in but there tends to be lots of local stuff that gets overlooked by the locals. Get a visitor guide from both IN and KY. From there pick the cities that are close and get their tourist info. From the map it looks like you are somewhat close to some historical sites, caves, and of course shopping; maybe even Holiday World.

Hey, all. I'm about 300+ posts behind. Just hopping in to ask...
Who watches your chix while you're on vacation? How do you work that out?
CCCHICKENS~ Haha I was going to say the same thing! Vacation? Haven't had one of those in a few years.

leslea~You'll probably end up like most of us . . . you won't want to leave your babies. I hate to be gone more that one or two nights. It's ridiculous! Luckily, when DH and I have been gone for a weekend, my son and his GF have been happy to help.

Someone on BYC recently started this map if potential sitters, and I think racinchickins passed this info along to our thread. I signed up and think it's a great idea if enough people sign up-- it's a little sparse right now. Map of potential chicken sitters

lol. The last vacation I went on was to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was fun, but wayyyyy to hot there. I don't even remember what year it was. 2011 maybe? I went to Michigan for a day a 1-2 years ago,for a day, not really a vacation though

Hello Everyone! My fiance (Jonathan) and I are starting our adventure in chickens this year! We are in our early twenties and live in Westport. We are animal lovers and have a flock of Katahdin sheep, a horse, three dogs, and four cats. I am a horse trainer and he is a Mechanical Engineering student as well as a drafter at Cummins. We have 10 mixed breed chicks right now and will be getting several Buff Orpingtons, Wyandottes, and possibly Brahmas in the next few days. I have been reading articles on this site for quite a while and decided it was time to make a profile and start getting to know everyone!

Sally, I will do that (check the list).

Hubby is being pretty great about the chickens. We're kind of Holiday Worlded out...but maybe there's a beach around I'm overlooking. Thanks for the ideas!!!

Say you have a 7 room house, each day you vist a new room. Day 1 tour of the kitchen. This is the microwave, this is the..........lol. I am not a movie person, but I love going to the drive-in. Or you could go gocart racing, camping-if it ever warms up, or go to a museum. There are lots of fun things you could do without actually going to far from home. But since you are only going to have 6 chickens, it shouldn't be that hard to find a negihborhood kid to hire for a few days.

CCCHHICKENS~ Hey, that's pretty creative. I need to give my DH a tour of our house and "spring clean" one room at a time.

TBH stands for To Be Honest, so apparently leslea is not usually.

Just teasing leslea!
leslea ~ Hahaha I guess you can't cram a vaca in before May? Tell him that you've booked a trip to another state . . . you'll be going to Louisville, KY -- just a few miles away from you.
