INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I don't want to know, but I'm sure you wouldn't do it if it wasn't necessary. Poor kiddos. They won't remember though. Give them lots of hugs after!

Hugs for sure. Now I'm off to bed. Our incubator is in our bedroom and I'm already hearing the chirps from our newest chick!! Night y'all

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it again.

6 assorted bantams. I had to, there was a bantam polish. I had to get 5 more to get her. SOOOO I think I got 2 cochin, the polish, a white one with pearl colored legs very floofy, and two partridge marked. They are teeny weenie. The silkies are going outside this weekend, and the big chickens are going out of the barn into their coop, so I think I am in the clear only having the ducks,ee's, and bantams in the house lol.

I was good, they had mallards at our tsc...I really wanted them BAD. But I was behaved and even passed up 2 black bantams all by themselves.

I made the trip to Rural King this morning and got some babies. I know what some of them are supposed to be but I'm stumped on my two bantams. I called the hatchery to see what they might be and one might be a Mille Fleur, but it looks just like my Easter Egger to me (at this point). I'm at a complete loss on the solid colored chick with the feathered legs. Any ideas are welcome.

Your brown chick looks like how my sebright did as chicks.
I think the other is probably a millie, but you never know, maybe a cochin?
I just got 6 silkies from our Goshen TSC; wasn't planning on it! I also went to our Big R, and was disappointed on what they had. (Boring breeds & meat birds) I emailed them through Facebook, and they got me all fixed up! I was able to special order 5 turken pullets from Cackle Hatchery! They will be here next month!

And HELLO to the Schultz's!
You will love the turkens, they are just the sweetest thing there is.

I am sorry for my inexperience with your forum. I pulled this up in a search and have been reading for hours. You have a wonderful forum, full of information!

Does anyone in Northern IN know where I can buy/trade quail? I breed Coturnix, and am looking to add several new bloodlines to my flock. I currently have around 40 adults, 5 1-day olds, and a few dozen in the incubator. I have Tibetans, Rosettas, Italians, and Jumbos. I am looking for either fertile eggs or young birds. I am willing to buy or trade.

I am also looking to increase my chicken flock (have around 70). Does anyone know who sells Frizzles in Indiana? I specialize in Araucana and Barred Rock, and could trade fertile eggs or pay for eggs. We are also looking to get into some meat birds this year. Does anyone know where to buy broilers inexpensively?

Thank you so much for your help!!!

and our thread

We love our thread, lots of awesome people. Don't apologize, just have fun and jump right in!!!
Our only rule is to keep chat family clean as we do have some young adults as members.
bradselig may be close to you and has fantastic quail. I just got 2 new bloodlines from Wisconsin (Vails quail) and his jumbos get to 16oz!
I also added golden speckled. I do have a few tibetians, and occasionally see an A&M from my original line.
Trading is always fun! I would love some rosettas, if you are interested I would love swap lines with you also!
The best deal I have seen for broilers lately is Meyer hatchery. I was at TSC tonight, and they were going for $1.99!

Hey everybody! I finally caught up on the thread. My girls have really been enjoying the weather and I have to.
Everybodys pics of chickens and goats are so cute. About a week ago we had a eagle and a owl flying and the eagle chased the owl a little bit. Last night we heard coyotes that seemed really close. Thankfully all animals are accounted for.
The Norwegian jaerhons (hope I spelled that right) are really pretty. Will you be selling any chicks that you hatch? If so, how much would you be selling them for.
About the blue insulation we have some strapped onto the side of my coop and they don't try to eat it.
Akers hatchery's website still says hatching starting in late February so wondering if they have started yet. All the pics are making me want some new chicks so badly. You guys need to stop posting them jk.
Sorry for this long post.
Love their website! Would love to get some of their ameraucana.
LOL, no worries, long posts are ok.

I saw the same bantams at TSC tonite, super tiny and solid black.
They had 2 all by their lonesome. I didn't get them, but dang I really wanted too!
I am using 50# of chick feed a WEEK right now, so I really need to hold off a while

DH wanted me to get some mallards. My friend that works there would have offered a discount too..
I was strong

Quote: ohh, thats a good possibility too! I have one silver duckwing hen, they are just sweet little birds.

I have directed a lady here from Facebook...hope she finds it. If not, she isaround Lawrence county and looking for Bourbon red turkeys and a created polish rooster. She's trying to get them locally. I'll be glad to pass along any info to her.
I am doing fertility checks on my eggs for my bourbon reds now. Have 3 set in the bator... I have 2 people waiting but my other 2 hens are not laying yet.
Am guessing another month or so, and all 3 should be laying regularly.
All 4 of my BRs are very nice deep colors, and the tom was used for 4H, gorgeous boy! The oldest hen is even deep mahogany and usually the hens are much lighter.
My polish still aren't laying

Everybody's chicks are so cute! It makes it feel like spring. Here are some pics of our little bantams we got today. If anyone has ideas on colors or breeds let me know. :) I know a few of them, but a couple I am iffy about.

#1 I betcha is an OEGB. #3 looks like it may be a mini EE.
Quote: The polish are very sweet, I love my girls. Penelope the roo is finally warming up to me.

I finally caved! I came home with 3 Millie fleur d'uccle and I believe 3 porcelain d'uccle! One porcelain doesn't look that great (I hate not being able to go in and watch them and hand pic them!) just kinda huddled down by itself. Hopefully just cold. I'll get pics in a bit!

Whew I was really getting concerned about you! JK

Just taking a break from intense re-writes of my upcoming book. I'm in a little bit of purgatory with it. Like all jobs..."the honeymoon is over" period with this one.

Hoping the weather warms up this weekend so we can get some work done on the run. The plan is to buy our wood and treat/paint it this weekend!

Loving your chick pics, folks. And welcome new members with your lovely birds. :D
Weather will be nice for you too! The waiting is the hardest I swear!

Every ones new chicks are adorable. Wish it was closer to the time when mine will be getting here. That's okay though maybe by the time mine arrive the weather will stop being so stupid and I'll be able to get everything all ready for them.
No kidding, its harder to put babies out this time of year. I have a "grow out" coop with heat, or I couldn't do it.

anyone driving all the way to Meyer to get their special on turkeys?
I honestly considered it!!! But its not in my budget this month. I
do want to try BBB eventually to see if the temperament is any better in them than the whites.

Hehehehehe you are as bad as I am!

My little d'Uccles!

My little bantam Cochins from my flock

And my first modern chick is growing so fast!
Oh my! The cochins are just precious! And I just love your moderns. I think I'll be asking about some once breeding coops are done

Oh and it was an exciting day today. I've had my first 6/6 egg day! I have 7 hens but I think one may not ever lay. She's about 10 months old and no eggs in sight, but she's sweet.
Congrats! My EE Bunny did not lay until the spring after I got her. She was well over a year old.

Congrats on the eggs! I may call the hatchery and ask. Here is the little white one again, she is the fluffiest chick I have ever seen, even over all of my silkies. I don't know what she is.

And just to show how tiny the little black one is....

Its too precious, the black one is too. Dying to know what they are.

Cccccccchickens- love the pics. The little d'uccle is beautiful!

Kabhyper- love the chicks! My TSC only had d'uccles and seabrights to choose from that I could see. Wish they had more of a variety, well maybe not lol.

So the little ones didn't love the ecoglow, and the ducks and EE's hated the heat lamp, so we switched back. I wanted something for the tiny babies to cuddle with. So without ruining anything special with baby poop, I used a few of my DH's old socks and make a baby cuddler/ first roost. They love it! I figured I would pass it on. Also if this hasn't been invented yet, I'm taking credit! HA!

Oh yeah and the ducks have names now. Scrappy and Skittles. Scrappy is huge and hilariously clumsy and Skittles is very mild and quiet and little.
Fantastic idea! Love the duck names too, If they are the same breed, you may have a pair. Drakes get big faster, and its pretty easy to tell.
If he gets a curled feather on his tail (drake feather) then you will know!

First peep! It's a RIR. This is day 2 of lock down!! im hoping they all hatch close together!

hatching vibes!!!

Travis (DH) was with me when I went into TSC today. I have 18 silkies, 4 Silver laced wyandottes, 2 RIR, 2 LF blue cochins, 1 minorca, 1 australorp, 10 EE's including the mixes , 1 minorca slw mix, and 2 khaki campell ducklings. So 41 before I went to get chick grit today. I wish I would have taken a picture of his face when I insisted I needed a polish chick in the mixed bantams. He knows there is a six chick minimum. All he did was sigh, and when we got home said "so that's close to 50 now right?" LOL I actually felt really badly. He likes them, although I think he is going to sign me up for Animal hoarders or My Strange Addiction or Intervention or any other show on A&E. I am fully prepared for a camera crew to show up on my doorstep.

DH just says ok, whatever you want. He only told me NO loudly on emu!
He said he doesn't want birds taller than him

I don't dehorn but mine are just for milk. I don't show or register them. I wish I had dehorned my buck tho he can be a handful!
DH laughs cause he says they are a handhold when trying to vaccinate or trim hooves. Do you have hoof trimmers you reccomend?
I have to band my calf this weekend, UGH not looking forward to it at all! He is about 300# already. So we are going to do dewormings, vacs etc all on the same day for the goats as well.

whew, caught up! Looking forward to the next few days and the fantastic weather! Have a months worth of yard work alone.
First thing I want to do is clear all the small trees/brush around the pond, and get back to fence repairs. Doing a complete
cleanup on all of the houses and coops. My "wild bunch" hens have taken to laying on my porch lately! So they will all be getting wing trims.
The group will not stay cooped since the top of my run collapsed. Between the snow and large tree branches that fell on it my egg coop isn't doing well at all.
I have a free day friday, has become "date day" and Dad spends the day with Mom.
I am proud to say my parents are married well over 50 years, and still look at one another like teenagers in love
love.gif

He takes her to dialysis, and then they go out for an early dinner. I worry about him driving at 80, but they do need their time alone.
He is still waiting to hear about his heart valve. Moms PT is going very well, we think she may not need the knee surgery at all.
