INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Fantastic idea! Love the duck names too, If they are the same breed, you may have a pair. Drakes get big faster, and its pretty easy to tell.
If he gets a curled feather on his tail (drake feather) then you will know!

DH just says ok, whatever you want. He only told me NO loudly on emu!
He said he doesn't want birds taller than him

Oh, I feel for you

I don't dehorn but mine are just for milk. I don't show or register them. I wish I had dehorned my buck tho he can be a handful!
DH laughs cause he says they are a handhold when trying to vaccinate or trim hooves. Do you have hoof trimmers you reccomend?
I have to band my calf this weekend, UGH not looking forward to it at all! He is about 300# already. So we are going to do dewormings, vacs etc all on the same day for the goats as well.

Yes I use a razor blade (carpenters knife). Wait till after a heavy rain (the hoofs will be softened up) get them on a milk stand and make a strait cut along their hoofs. My Nubians are a large breed but for the most part I can get both edges of the hoof with one swipe. It makes a really nice flat hoof. But you must be VERY careful not to slice your hand or fingers. And if one would bleed a little I always have a can of Blood Stop next to me. This is how I was shown and it works for me. Hope this helps ya

No chicks this morning but I do have two more peeps. I am worried about the first peeper last night!!! Not making to much progress. No zipping or anything??? I heard it chirping last night and thought for sure it would have hatched out is this ok?

Skip my last post!! The first egg that peeped is a rocking!!! Oh I can't wait till those little fuzz butts pop out! Hopefully my next post will be full of pics!

At the end of April I am "due" for some Buckeyes and German New Hampshire, then sometime in May I am "due" for some Isbar, Breda, Coronation, Light and Silver Sussex, and Swedish Flower Hen, also in May I will also hopefully be "due" for some Mottled & Black Java, Black & White Jersey Giant, Dark Brahma, Black Australorp, Black & Silverduckwing Ameraucana, Partridge & White Wyandotte, and Partridge Cochin. I am also "due" one more time in April or May not sure which yet, but then I will be getting Red & Silver Gray Dorking, Blue Orpington, Silver Penciled & Partridge Rock, Silver Laced Wyandotte, and RC Rhode Island Red. You think maybe I got a little carried away? I definitely have a bad case of chicken math.
Certified chicken math, right there!

I am counting down to a peeping box on 5/6. Taking forever, but it'll be worth it.

I already told DH that if we decide to add to our flock I am getting a frizzle cochin from Akers hatchery in Salem.

I've seen several people with ducklings with their chicks...my husband and son have a duckling deal (hard work at school until Spring Break)...what do I need to know about brooding ducklings and chicks together? Is there a certain thread (haven't seen a detailed one yet) that already discusses this?

I know someone out there needs a couple black cochin bantam hens. They are right around six months old.

They either just started laying or will anyday now. I'm getting some new little bantam eggs that are from these two or their sisters.

Let me know, I might even be able to be convinced to trade these for something else!!

I did it last spring, my two Pekins grew up just fine with the chicks. My chicks were just a little older than the ducklings so they all were about the same size. The ducks grow faster, in my opinion, than chicks so just be sure they are all roughly the same size and I'd think you will be fine.

The little ducks WILL make a wet mess of the shavings, brooder, feed, everything! Just be prepared to clean/dry things often.

Wow! That's a lot of chickens and a lot of variety. It will be a gorgeous flock. Where are you getting your Javas from?

Hey all,
Not sure if anyone remembers us but we are still around! Does anyone know of or have quality Barred Rocks, RIR's or Cochins? We're looking for female/pullets only. Feel free to message me privately or email me at [email protected].
Thanks for looking!

I know of a breeder of good show/SOP quality Barred Rocks, Fred's Hens, he has some beautiful birds and I believe a page for Plymouth Rock breeders if you search it. I can't help with any of the other breeds but I hope this helps a bit. Good luck! :)

On another note I'm so ready for spring!! I've got 14 Welsummer eggs in the bator going on day 4 and I just unpacked 18 silkie eggs from Kab!! The welsummer's are due on the 31st so I'll have to take them out for lockdown since the silkies'll be behind but I'm too excited to care to worry about messing up! The bator has been running like clockwork!

Lol and we had an escapee EE last night the flaps on the cardboard brooder fell and she flew out. Left quite the mess under the table which I had to clean up but I think I'll call her roadrunner I almost didn't catch her I had to have my sister help. :D
