INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Yes, that seems fair. Salem isn't that far from me. I'd like to get a frizzle Cochin hen at some point because they're so pretty, but if I had to get stuck with a roo...

Well, we'll see if I'm crazy enough to want one by then. Let me get through this first mini-flock, first. ;)

I don't think they have cochins (I wish!), but they have frizzle Orpingtons I think. I will probably get some birds from them next Spring. I figure I am maxed out for now (or should be!). Plus I will be glad to be done with chicks in my office for a year.

Hrm...

I guess I just assumed they were Cochins because they mentioned them here: http://www.akershatcheryandeggs.com/chickens/frizzles

On second look maybe not!

They don't really say, do they?

I wonder if they would sell me a frizzle orp chick to go with my original six...

They say on their home page. I don't see why they wouldn't. Unless they are back ordered

We raise purebred Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Welsummers, Lavender Orpingtons, Silkies and have Frizzles of the Buff Orpingtons along with Black Sex Links.

To the new peeps with thread issues, we have all dealt with it, and it does suck.

I will tell you though, that more often than not, the people on here are very nice. I have found that the trick is to lurk around the threads you are interested in for awhile.

Read individual posts and get a feel for personalities. Find someone who has been on here for a long time, who seems nice and helpful, and private message them a question.

If you can find a few people, who are knowledgeable, and nice, you can start posting on the threads and have conversations with the nice ones. That way if some idiots come on being all full of themselves, you can ignore it, and you will see they don't get a whole lot of responses from the more experienced breeders/posters.
I had some bad experiences when I first signed on BYC.

I didn't know anything, and just wanted advice from people in the know. I got a lot of responses that were blatantly trying to make me feel dumb. Keyboard warriors, who think they can say whatever they want to you about your birds because you are online and not face to face.

So I sought out the nice ones, who knew what they were talking about. Real breeders, who have the nicest birds, don't need to be rude to get their point across. They have nothing to prove, because they already have, the right way, by learning like the rest of us, not by berating newbies and acting cocky and thinking they are the end all of knowledge of poultry.

You have to be a bit thick skinned

and realize these people are probably sitting at home in their underwear, covered in cheetos dust

with no real friends to speak of, because they are mean lonely people. They are the minority.

The Indiana thread is awesome, and I think a lot of these other breed and state threads could learn a lot from it and the wonderful people on it.

i will add a little: i am originally from Michigan & resid here again for the past 10 years - previous to that i lived in N E Indiana (Decalb co.)aprox 8 years. i subscribe to the MI group as well as here as a former hoosier . Everyone has been wonderful , so thank you to my hoosier friends - maybe will get an oppourtunity to meet a few of you in person someday :)

My littlest love their sock snuggler/roost. I love how chickens have no sense of size at all. They think they are big chickens. The little black and partridge colored chicks aren't much bigger than a silver dollar. I love baby bantams.
