INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

LOL! Thatd make a funny cartoon, chicken ninjas surrounding you in the barn! Its just the opposite at my house! Mine can hear me coming and bombard me as soon as I walk in the coop! Plus, my cats seem to think they're chickens, so I get swarmed by them too!

Mine usually start chattering away and yelling the minute they see me, so there is no sneaking happening anywhere with the older chickens! The babies haven't learned that I am something to look forward to yet. They still run away in terror lol.

Speaking of babies! Here is an updated pic of my 11 week old Marans from Brad. I think the gender confused one is a pullet!!! I have named her PeeWee because she is so small! They have been outside next to my chickens for about a week. I had planned on putting them in with the older chickens at around 12 weeks, but PeeWee is so small I may wait. What do you guys think? The cockerel sure is beautiful! If anyone wants a Birchen Marans cockerel let me know! I will try keeping him if I don't find a home for him that won't eat him. I'm hoping he and Chewie will do ok but I don't really have the number of girls I need even for one Roo (he is starting to pull head feathers out from over breeding) so I am a bit worried about keeping two. It was obvious pretty early that he was a boy so I didn't handle him much to preserve his natural respect of humans (I had heard that handling them a lot as chicks can lead to mean roos later). He is free to a good home!

Also, I know that saddles can help if the roo's spurs are causing injury to a hen's sides, but what do you guys recommend for a hen with a bald neck from breeding? Chewie is not exactly the athletic sort and I think he is hauling his fat but around by their neck feathers!

McAfee in valpo is closer, I hope I don't loose her she is my favorite!
I'm really sorry that you are going through this and hope that it gets better for you and your hen. My only experience with sick chickens has actually been with Marek's and I learned that a lot of things can look like that but not be the same. I called the ADDL at Purdue today to see if they could do testing for a chicken while they are alive and they are not able to at this time. They did recommend that you contact the Veterinary school there and see if they could help you, but I am not sure how far away that would be, even if they could help you out. I spoke with a Vet in Indianapolis and they were going to see my chicken but after talking for a bit, they said I'd be better of taking her to Purdue if I could find someone because their testing is more specific, detailed, and less expensive. I am completely tied up with my kids today or I would call them for you. I really hope the vet you see gives you all the answers you need, but if not, this could be a backup idea.

No chicks yet. I had hoped this wouldn't happen. Crossing my fingers they are just behind. A lot of people on other threads have been posting about chicks and adults lost in transit

So my post about crappy people on the threads is number 1 for the day and number 2 for the week on the highest rated posts. I hope it doesn't get me kicked off BYC lol!
That's pretty great. I hope that some of those people read it and think about being nicer. It was hilarious. I wonder how so many people saw the post?

Well not a one of my partridge brahmas hatched! I'm blaming the power outage. They were internally pipped, but never made it out. Now I need to decide whether I want to pursue trying hatching eggs again or just buy chicks. I'm already out so much money on these stupid birds lol. I just out some light brahma eggs into lockdown. Hope I have better luck with them.
