INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I posted this on the Facebook site as well but...a friend is looking for guinea hens. She's from my county (Lawrence). Rural King in Bloomington didn't have any when she checked. Any ideas I can give her? I don't think she wants to deal with mailing them.

Rural King in Shelbyville had a whole bunch of guineas yesterday, March 23rd. Might call there.

Okay, enough nonsense for tonight -- I'm going to bed, too!
Hope everyone has a Happy Tuesday.

Well I had two of my newly moved out babes hatched in November come up missing last night at lockup and realized this morning that the feather mess I found was from my lone Silkie boy! Omg I could cry! I hate losing babes but out here with hawks and such it never surprises me...but to lose him..ugh...he has made it through a lot and was such a good boy! Of course one of the babes I lost was a blue copper Marans pullet.
Pic in memory of him!

I am terribly sorry. It really hurts to lose any of them.

Jchny, The kiddie pools are the ones we used last year for the alpacas. I don't think anyone is carrying them yet for this summer. Chick Rookie, it is garden netting from TSC. I think it is 14' x14' it is around $5 or so.
Thanks!

jchny2000 - have any of your lavender orpingtons gone broody before?
Ugh, no, the girls laid very few eggs last fall, and am still waiting for them to resume.
They are the sweetest birds but geez.. I am really waiting for some eggs!

Janet- check lowes on kiddy pools. I thought I saw the outside garden associates bringing them down the other day
Awesome! I will call in the morning! That will sure solve my brooding crunch, I hatched wayyyyy too many quail

I am all but giving some away at this point, need room for regular chicks and waterfowl.

I got some less blurry pics of the Cochin babies. I still think I have 3 black and 1 blue. Any opinions?

#2 looks much different. I bet you have a blue.

You're killing me, kabhyper, I have been itching to pick up a couple of cochin babies and have been resisting (even though I can actually hear them calling to me every time I pass TSC going to/from work, lol) - chicken math says I *need* them, unfortunately my husband doesn't understand chicken math..........
I saw large brahma at RK in new castle for 1.39 each straight run... I didn't get them. Wishing I did, they sound like an excellent breed now that I am reading up.. UGH.

*New Layer Alert*
Dita, my Birchen Maran has finally found the nesting box. Sadly, it's not as dark as I'd hope, but hey it's an egg and it's mine!

I got my 3rd egg today from my BCMs, I need a roo!

Quote: I love my critters, am just lost without them if I can't be out with them every day. I do love to go camping and fishing too.
I trust my oldest DD to care for them when we can get away a day or 2. I rarely leave since I care for my parents.
We have an older camera security system that's needing replaced, looking at Fry's and Tiger direct for a new one.
Its pretty awesome to watch whats happening without going outside at 4am.

Put 22 eggs in lockdown this morning. I pulled one the other day when I candeled because it didn't have any development. I noticed none of them had particularly large air cells though, hoping I didn't drown them!!
Its a learning experience, but I bet you will do fine!

I raise lavenders and whites. I have a pearl hen thats paired with a lavender also.
Mine laid late april last year, no signs of anything yet. I ask a minimum of 3, so there's a good chance the chicks aren't alone.

A friend posted this on fb.

:D

Wow, very attractive!

Quote: Its all a learning experience for sure. I keep my bantams a little more confined than the LF birds until they mature.

I was thinking guineas are late layers. And with our horrible winter, they might be later this year.
I bet so too. Mine were late april last year, all my birds are running a month behind.
