INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

That is a Rosecomb bantam hen. Is she friendly at all? I would judge by her quality and the fact that she has a legband that she flew the coop, so to speak, so you might want to ask your friend if she knows of anyone in the area with chickens before you take her. I would also suggest you take precautions such as quarantine as Sally suggested, but closer to 4 weeks to be safe.

The unfortunate thing about having such a small flock is that you cannot safely do the 'canary in the mineshaft' method of quarantine where you put one of your birds in quarantine with her. The danger is that she will be an asymptomatic carrier of something and you won't know until you introduce her to your flock. Just be very careful and if you see ANYTHING to be concerned about (sneezing, itching, watery or oozy eyes, etc.), take some time to think about what you're going to do next.

My friend did walk around her neighborhood looking for anyone with chickens. I will quarantine her for 4 weeks. I really don't know that I have use for a rosecomb bantam, but maybe she'll be happy free-ranging with my small flock once the quarantine is over. Thanks for all the help and advice!

It's terribly invasive and has become a real problem in Indiana.  Purdue and the DNR have been campaigning to get it banned for some time.  I strongly recommend you try to cancel your order.  You should also chastise the nursery for selling burning bush in the first place; it's irresponsible of them.  There are other ways to make money.

If they won't give you a refund (and they should), I'll pay you half of what you paid for them if you'll agree to destroy the plants with fire as soon as you recieve them.  I'm not kidding.  That's how strongly I feel about invasive species.

I used to spend a lot of time in a tree service company cutting down sawtooth oaks and white mulberry.

Hey maybe you can help me with the nitty little trees growing around my house from the birds pooping off of the drain. Because I have no idea what to do. One by my front door is getting as thick as my wrist.

I think they're good flyers. You might post something on CL?

I'm glad I found out before spending all the time planting them. I only spent $13 on all 10, so even if they won't cancel at this point I guess I'm not out much. What is a pretty alternative that is safe for dogs? I want something colorful and am open to suggestions!

When I come out to buy chickens, I'll be happy to take a look at them. If I can't help directly, I can at least advise a course of action.

I hate that I didn't take a picture. ..I was cleaning out the coop yesterday and noticed one of the broody girls puffing up making noise..so I got close and still to hear peeping. . Didn't know if internal/external pip?! Then she raised up a bit and I saw a tiny foot!! Then that baby poked it's head out from mamma! First time letting a broody hatch but OMGoodness how beautiful!

Chick TV is a lot of fun!!
We've had 12 hatch in the last 24 hours and one more on its way out. I moved 10 of them out of the incubator this morning. I know don't touch but they were trampling the other eggs. They seem happy under the "Momma Hen" now.

I think this is my only Legbar chick that's hatched so far. If so it's a girl right?!?
