Where did you end up purchasing honeybees from? Just curious as many suppliers have been sold out.

I got 1 of my hives from a gentleman in Ohio who the local bee club in my area all ordered from and the queen just placed a egg in the queen cell on Sunday so i'll get a split/swarm from it soon. the other 2 hives came from a lady in Huntington who was a commercial beekeeper downsizing as a result of a divorce. I'm very excited as they all look to be healthy and very active. i can't wait to taste their honey Although, i wish i had ordered more hives but when i placed my orders i thought both of my 2 hives were still alive(i placed my orders in the winter) and i counted on it still being alive this spring. the expression don't count your chickens before your eggs hatch seems an appropriate expression to use in this case. lol But here is hoping my bee friend when he does swarm removals may gift me one

okay....this is nuts...my mom has decided that the bantys can't be in with the lf so I am putting up a second coop and run this weekend. The coop I'm getting holds 6-8 lf but I am putting only 2 bantys in it....so here's where the math (mostly multiplication) comes in.... I need (BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

) to add at least one more so that the bantys don't look ridiculous in the huge coop. so if anyone out there has a 2-4 week old banty cochin, d'uccle, d'anver any color but must be pullet let me know...I can travel most anywhere in IN to meet or pick up. Hey Racin just a thought...do you have any Fayoumi?? they are little enough to count as banty!

Anyways...just looking...and really what's one more right?

And lastly...the guineas! Wow, they are wild compared to the baby chicks. They tried to fly out of the box on the way home. Thanks again, Brad, for putting me in touch with Trey.

We don't know if these are boys or girls yet but we are calling them Thelma & Louise thanks to their escape attempt! They peep about 10x louder than the chicks. @jchny2000 , he said he thought these two were chocolate. What do you think?



So now I guess I can collapse for the day and rest! The brooder is too quiet...no one is peeping...guess I will watch chicken TV for a bit.

The dogs have still not made any sign of noticing the birds, even with the addition of the loud keets. Hubby said he thinks I desensitized them with Animal Planet streaming chick cam!

I told him that was my plan all along...just hoping I'm not delusional in the early days. You know how all new moms think everything is working out perfectly.

I ordered two packages from the Apple blossom in Star City, it cost me $135ea :0! They will be here mid to late May.

I have my first broody hen. It is one of my Black Jersey Giants.  I have tried taking here off the nest a couple times each day for the past three days, but she insists!  I don't really have too much room for extra fluff butts, but I think she may be more stubborn than me.  Does anyone around Columbia City or Ft. Wayne have any LF Cochins eggs?  I would only like three or four. Thanks and have a great sunny day!!!!!

I don't really need to have Cochins, I just think they are a neat breed. I would be happy with any good laying breed. That hen is so determined!

I'm in columbia city and plan on breeding my cochins when they mature. I have a grown blue pair, but don't have them separated from the flock yet for breeding. I'll let you know when I start breeding them though.

Here is my progress from Monday. The beginning of a breeding coop. By the way those aren't the legs, I just used longer boards that I could use them as braces for the actual legs and it isn't going there, just working on it inside one of the barns so I don't have to drag all over the place. I probably won't get to work on it until this weekend. If only there was more time in the day


And yesterday my dad called me and said he was driving down a road and saw a hawk eating something it had killed on the side of the road and a group of buzzards were waiting several feet away, waiting for its scraps
