INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have one of those fans, too, and I love it because it sounds like an airplane and drowns out the next door neighbor's pool noise!

Good point about dust-- Fans get dusty no matter where they're located. I just get in the routine of dusting them each day when I clean up the poop. Btw, if you have compressed air to clean your computer, it's helpful in cleaning parts of the fan that are difficult to dust. (Always unplug before cleaning

). Someone just told me about spraying the fan blades and the front cover with Rain-X automotive surface spray (typically for windshields) to lesson the amount of dirt (and spider webs) that stick. We have some, so I'll try it out and report back.

ChickCrazed ~ Did you look at the Poultry Podiatry link that's on our Thread page? Poultry Podiatry - PoultryPedia - Google Sites
It has a lot of info. I haven't caught up on the thread (from Memorial Day and my Silkie's death), so I missed what happened to Gregor. Here's some neurological info from my "Chicken Health for Dummies" book, (most of which is free online if anyone googles certain sections).

jen214 ~ Congrats! How adorable! I just had my first broody, and it was SO exciting!
crazychick ~ As far as I know, broodiness isn't brought on by a rooster's presence. I think that it's a trait, and some breeds are more likely to "go broody" than others. Orpingtons (my broody) and Silkies are two breeds whose hens are likely to go broody.
Thriftymom~ You have your hands full with chicks! Please post photos of the lavender marans. Sounds interesting! Hope you're turkey's health improves.

Thanks! I had looked through the Poultry Pediatry link in my BYC searches. The list of illnesses is interesting but his only symptom seems to be leg weakness. I am still thinking vitamin deficiency, especially since all the other birds are totally fine and unaffected. Gregor seemed to have drank last night and dove on his breakfast. I'm praying he starts showing some improvement soon! I also added a third water station in the hopes that he will be able to reach at least one at all times today. Tomorrow I may move his kennel outside for some grass/outside time. Poor guy must be getting pretty bored and I don't want depression to hinder any improvement.

Gus and Jules went to live with JChny2000 today. Its sad, but Im so happy they went to such an awesome home. Thanks Brad for taking them to her for me! I miss them, but I know they are safe and happy!

Awww, I'm sorry. Even though I'm sure it is a relief, it is still sad when you look out and don't see them any more. Did your flock dynamic IMMEDIATELY change? Mine sure did when my roos left!!

I'm thinking out loud here. Not even sure I'm going to do this so bear with me...

I'm considering trying to find a home for 2 BR hens and possibly 1 red hen - all hatchery stock. They were all 2 years old in March of this year. All are laying wonderfully.

So...why am I considering this? I need to free up some space for the new young ones and try to change the flock dynamics some.

These ladies would be good for someone that wants to start a new flock with mature, currently laying birds. So...I'm thinking out loud and seeing if there is anyone that may be in that situation that wants to start their flock without all the waiting. Right now all of their eggs are weighing in on the scales in the "extra-large" - "jumbo" weight range.

They have been on organic, no-soy feed from hatch. Get extra animal protein frequently. Get to run free-range most of the time. Raised "better than organic" :D
Two of these look a little "scruffy" because they have a rooster for a companion

. One seems to have avoided his affections and the feather quality is quite nice on her.

I HAVE AN EMERGENCY! Lawrence ACC came and said Lawrence DOES NOT allow chickens in residential areas. Barb very nicely gave me a week to get homes for my babies until the ordinance passes, and I can't keep roos at all.

PLEASE can someone help keep my babies safe AND please please go to the meeting on June 2nd? PLEASE I AM BEGGING PLEASE!! This is not permanent and I really really need help. Please!

If you can keep my flock safe until August please let me know! And if I have any friends on here that can come PLEASE come to the meeting to get this ordinance passed! I am devastated and in tears over this. Please!!!

Yikes! I would assume the chicks can stay inside and under the radar. How many outside adults are you talking? And can you give an age/size/gender breakdown? I don't have any additional housing capacity but if you can't find anyone else I can try to see if we can modify a horse stall. However I did have a mink living in my barn this winter and have no idea if it is still in there, so it probably shouldn't be your first or best option.

I have a cockerel sally is taking that I was planning to rehome anyway. I have 6 other older juveniles and adults living in the egg plant and 11 babies in my tractor. My mom might take them but I have to find the laws for Cumberland first.

Hey guys. Does anyone on here have a trailer that could haul an 8x8 shed for a member in Indianapolis?
I would, but my trailer is just under 6 foot wide, so the shed wouldn't fit.

Quote: How old are the babies in the tractor? I don't have room for adult chickens, but depending on how old yours are I could possibly put them in with my younger ones. I don't think you have any breeds that are the same as mine, so they would be easy to keep track of.

The babies are 4-8 weeks old. The older ones are smaller birds, silkies and a legbar. I have
3 blue partridge/gold partridge brahmas
2 legbar pullets
1 golden comet
1 tetra tint
3 silkies
1 blue orpington

Then my older birds are
1 rir pullet
2 blrw pullets
1 golden comet pullet
1 blrw cockerel
1 blue cochin pullet

And the blrw cockerel I'm finding a new home for with sally.

I'm begging please...and I'm bad at organizing stuff like this and it's so shirt notice but please please please if anyone can show up Monday and/or to the meeting in July I'm positively begging you to.
