Just incase anyone is interested...........I am finally letting go of a few chickens lol I have a Blue Ameraucana Cockerel for sale. He is from Paul Smith lines. Hasn't showed any signs of aggression. Started crowing a week or two ago. He will be beautiful when matured and has potential to be SQ. 3 and a half months old. I am asking $15 for him. (BTW I also listed him on CL and the whole time I was doing that, I couldn't help but think there would be someone come along and read it thinking I am crazy because I said this chicken came from so and so lines lol) I also have a Barred Rock Rooster I am wanting to get rid of. He likes to peck at fingers at feeding time, but has never hurt me. He always acts starved at feeding time lol. He also loves zippers. If I had to guess he is nearing two years old. He is HQ. $5 for him. Located in Bluffton. PM if you are interested

Don't know if anyone is interested, but this Saturday is going to be a processing day at my place. I have waaaayy to many roos at the 'jump anything slow enough to catch' stage. I've got them separated from the girls, but they aren't playing nice with each other either.

If anyone wants to learn how to process, or has birds they need to have 'that one bad day', they are welcome to join. I have a tub plucker, so it takes a lot of the time and effort out of it. Send me a pm if you are interested.

We have 5 that are getting close to their full size, well 4 and an EE. The EE will not ever be a great processing size. Now I'm thinking of processing them while they are on the small side.

It is so tempting.

Okay....saying it again....

When I candled the eggs from my broody I saw nothing.  By somewhere around 16-18 days I could tell that they were dark and solid.   That's it.  All of the dark solid ones hatched. 

By that same time I could tell if the interior was "sloshing". (No chick   )


So....my point is that if I had tossed them before that I would likely have tossed live chicks.  I just was NEVER able to see anything inside prior to that.  By that time they were heavy and solidly dark and produced chicks.

I know, I know... I'm trying not to totally freak out here. And I worry about my little Margie, too. I need to look up breathing techniques.

Lots of things to consider here.  How bright is the light?  Do you have a rubber attachment to make all of the light go in the egg?  How porous are the eggs?  How dark are the eggs?  Is the air bubble growing in size at all?

I have trouble using my dollar store flashlight on dark porous eggs but i can see the air bubble growing.  Porous eggs are hard to hatch in an incubator as they dry out so easily. 

As for the hen getting skinny, maybe some chopped liver right under her nose and you hiding to see if she eats it,  My broodies would not eat in front of me but as soon as I was around the corner I could hear their cackling and the meat was gone.

When I candled last night, I started with the cheap little flashlight I use to count the birds, but I switched to this super-bright handheld spotlight thing and still wasn't seeing anything. Admittedly, I used a piece of cardboard to cover the light with a hole in it to put the egg against, and it wasn't tight to the egg, but it didn't seem to make a huge difference. There are two eggs that I can see pores in, but the air sacs are growing in all of the eggs and they seem to be going at about the same rate. No dark eggs at all. The eggs under her are white, tinted, light to medium brown, and pale blue / blue-green.

I did not my hens' egg was bad until after it broke and then was no doubting it. I have some mutt eggs that I am 99.9% sure are fertile that I can give you, if you need some fertile eggs. I also have some mutt chicks that should be hatching within the next week, I could probably give you a couple of the chicks to sneak under her. Except for my Rhodebar Rooster, everything else came from TSC last year. And there is no chance of getting any full breed of anything because none of my hens match any of my roosters. But they do make some interesting and cute chicks. If you would like some eggs or chicks if they hatch let me know.

Aw, thanks for the offer! One of my groups on Facebook is trying to convince me to get hatching eggs for her, but I was only letting her sit to try to hatch some offspring from my rooster, who was taken by a predator earlier this month. :/ But thanks again, and I'll let you know if I change my mind!
