INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thanks for your response! Our thinking was kind of like yours. We don't want to make it seem like we are asking for permission from the neighbor. In the end, we will do what we want on our property (law permitting). I watched youtube videos of hens laying their eggs and "singing". Does that become noisy? I find my neighbor's singing in her yard offensive- we can make it even.
naptown chickens sells a coop with run for backyards. There are coops on amazon too but a thing to think about before buying any coop is what will you do with the chicken litter. We use deep litter and most pre-made coops don't accommodate deep litter.
But the cheapest way to get started is to re-purpose a shed and make your own run. Hens can be loud but I would say almost any dog is just as loud.

On a different topic, we are selling our couch. If anyone here is interested, please message me. It is a green / tan plaid. It is in great shape.

Just got off the phone with MyPetChicken.com re: Otis. They are issuing a refund, but...I didn't know this...if they made any more errors on my order (this makes one lost chick and one wrongly-sexed), they will refund shipping + the cost of my silkie (if he turns out to be a boy--gotta wait 'til October). They gave me a credit for a free chick, too, on a future order. Haven't thought that far ahead, honestly. Just wanted to share. I had no idea they would do more than refund the cost of the bird. She acted like they'd give me my whole order free (she called it a reship) if they find one more error with this one. I'd just have to send photos.

Here are the bantam girls that arent silkies. They live with the silkies for now though.

So frustrated right now.  I went to the noon zoning meeting.  They changed the location of the noon meeting! The original flyer said it was at the State Fairgrounds and they moved it downtown. The frustrating thing is guess where I came from? Downtown!

I was not the only one there for the meeting -but the place was totally dead.  It took us awhile to even find someone to tell us what was going on. I did not leave the fairgrounds until 12:15. So I figured I would be at least 45 min. late by the time I got back downtown, figured out where I was going, found a parking place . . .Already fighting a splitting headache - so I came home.  I don't have anyone to watch my daughter tonight, so I am trying to decide if I will go and bring her or not.

Tonights meeting is at the State Fairgrounds in Discovery hall just like the flyer says- once we found someone and they found someone who knew what was going on, they gave us the new flyer but that was a little late!

So if anyone goes tonight, let me know how it goes.

We are at the evening zoning meeting right now...been here for going on 2 hours. Wow...there are about 35 people here to hear and speak.
Very good points are being brought up discussing gardens and livestock zoning. I hope they take our concerns back and adjust the draft ordinance.

- I think it's awesome that you are there and hope that you, and the others, are heard.

I wonder if they will publish a transcript of all the testimony?

That would be interesting.
Right now, this is a release of the preliminary draft, giving persons opportunity to articulate how the proposed ordinance would/would not meet our needs.
Purportedly, our comments will be incorporated into a revised draft before it gets put in front of the metro development council.

they look great! I love that barred cochin! If she ever needs a new home she is welcome to come live with my lavender barred cochins! Lol

Looking for juvenile pullets/laying hens @ a fair price. Lost ~38 of my birds in the past 2.5 weeks due to predators.
If you are looking for 40 started pullets of the same breed, Meyer hatchery might be the cheapest price. Their price for 40 RIR pullets shipped to you is just under $20 each. There are local options here but I'm not sure the price would be that much less if not higher. My prices tend to be higher than $20 for an almost laying hen.
