Same here. Last week the deals were even worse. It is why Dh is outside framing and framing.

In chicken news my Big BLRW jumped on a 5 gallon bucket filled with food and somehow knocked it over. He is now the hero for the free rangers. Little did they know that the bucket was their planned nightly meal. Still I find it funny. At first my Franklin (the Rooster) was freaked out. Then he noticed the food and started making the I have found food calls. Then instead of eating he stood guard and blocked or chased off the 7 or so other free ranging roosters.

kabhyper~ So sorry you're dealing with a sick chicken! What's the breed, sex, and age? In my "Chicken Health for Dummies" book, these are illnesses that include sneezing and runny eyes, so all symptoms not apply to your chicken, but you can google the names to find out more.

Infectious coryza -- described as a sudden occurrence as you mentioned to jchny
Mycoplasmosis
Infectious Bronchitis
Newcastle disease -- mild to severe forms
Marek's disease -- CRSelvey has experience

She is 3 years old. Silkie. Hen. Her pupils are not reacting to light and are fully dilated. Ruled out newcastles, mareks, coryza. Thinking inner ear or neurological. Indy vet said if she doesn't improve to put her down. Im waiting to hear back from the fort wayne vet. I will have the vet do it if I have to. Hoping she pulls out of it. Very bizarre. Looks like everyone had a nice time. Maybe next year. I was thinking it might be easier for people to go to chicken fest, if it was done before fair season, or in the fall, like mid september. I just noticed how busy everyone was this year with fair and 4h stuff during the time of chicken fest. It would be nice to meet more of you.

I like the idea of not having it near 4-H time. Or big shows period. That makes it nearly impossible for me to ever be able to attend one. I think lat june or september would be about the perfect time.

I think I have a problem... I know that I've heard the girls will slack off laying if temps get too hot or cold so I was expecting a slight drop I'm production, but my nephew said there were 7eggs on Friday, 11 eggs Satuday, only 3 eggs on Sunday, 10 yesterday and only 4 today. The ones I got today were covered with dried yolk and pieces of shells. So either there's a varment in my coop or I've got a very famished egg eater!!! Or possibly one and the same. So how can I find out which, short of staking out the coop 24-7? Any advice y'all?

Mom is an australorpe that went broody so I went and got eggs from brad they are only 3 days old. One is a silkie & the other 2 are cream legbars. I think the cold front and humidity level messed up the others ones they developed but didn't hatch

Margo keeps pushing her prolapse back out and it has gotten worse with more tissue being pushed out

. I know she has lived longer than most chickens are allowed, and has had a nice semi-retirement. I am still not happy about the decision I am going to have to make very soon...At this point she has had internal tissue hanging out for 3 days and even if I somehow manage to get it back in (which is not looking good) I think the risk of infection is very high.

Man it has been a rough couple of months!

I decided to go ahead and lightly dust the broody wyandotte, hopefully the dust will dissipate before the chicks arrive. I also cleaned her nest out, hopefully she doesn't poop it up too much before they hatch! I got my first look at the eggs since putting them under her, one of them looks like it got crushed early on by her gigantic wyandotte booty. The other 5 were all nestled in place just fine. I considered candling but didn't. At least I know that at most i will have 5 hatch. Looking forward to seeing some tiny fluffy butts! I also have to say, for a fairly unfriendly bird my broody has been very good about me reaching under her face in the nest to change out her food. I haven't been pecked once (even though she growls at me).

Am so sorry, sounds like broody mom is doing well tho.
