I want to thank you guys, I really think you are the ones that saved my baby Girl hen and made it possible for her to walk again,  When I was asking ya'll about her some of you said Vit Deff. It got me to thinking, when she broke her first leg she was real young, what if in her bodies attempt to heal itself it was taking everything it had, So I started pumping extra Vit. and mixing Starter grower in with all her feed and crushed egg shells. 4 days latter she stood up!!!! She is shaky but I think that is from her muscles being all out of shape from not being used.
So  A BIG THANK YOU  TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I would throw this out too:

I've decided on a couple turkey varieties I'm not keeping. So I have poults available.

4 Mottled Black - 8 Weeks old. These are from Porters.
5 Blue Slate - 9 weeks old. 4 are from Rural King, 1 was accidentally included with my midget white eggs from someone who also breeds blue slate.

I've already decided I'm keeping and breeding Midget Whites.

Now I just need to decide between Sweetgrass and Pencilled Palms. I'm probably going to grow them out to adults and then decide.
The blues sound interesting. How large should they get by November? Maybe I buy 2 of them off you with the intent of them being the meals. That leaves me with my 4 so long as I have only 1 male.

Poultry is to be entered and penned on the 5th by 7 pm (showmanship is at 2, so I would imagine most will be there well before the cutoff time for penning) and released on the 9th between 6 and 9 p.m. so it would seem the 6,7 or 8th would be your best days to see poultry

So if we go tomorrow (Tuesday the 5th) will we miss a lot of poultry? We are trying to save money so two-dollar Tuesday was appealing.

Second week photos are done! Can't believe the changes in the past week. The guinea and MF are getting a lot larger and have more feathers than the silkies.

My cat decided he wanted in on the photo shoot yesterday and kept sitting on the laptop/stage. LOL

Here are the two previous weeks for comparison:

Really looking good. my fav's are: of course Michelle, Sadie, Eleanor, Pepper, Lizzy, Martha, Clarbella and Wolfgang. What is Rita? She is pretty.

Cher's grown up from this:

to this:

She's a beautiful bird--but I think her head-poof is obscuring her vision. Does anyone have insight or experience that they can share with me about trimming feathers around the eyes?
She is Awesome, love her

I live in Demotte but not "in town". I'm sure you guys will know what that means. I have about an acre on the west side of 65. I have about 34 chickens and 9 ducks. My neighbors all get free eggs and they are all very friendly so I've never had any problems. I picked up two chicks from an assorted bantam collection at Crown Feed and Supply. Pretty sure they are roosters. I don't mind and I don't think my neighbors will either but legally where do I stand? I am having trouble wading through web pages of zoning laws. I'd love to keep them. One is a Japanese bantam and the other is a red old English game bantam. They will both look really awesome in my flock and they have plenty of girls and space to share. Are smaller bantam Roos just as loud as their larger counterparts? I think I will let my neighbors know just in case they have any problems to let me know and I can try to re-home them. I would like to have some unique roosters. I hope I can keep them. Thanks guys!
all the little guys I have and have had were very loud!! Good luck hope you can keep your Roo's

They actually started building it in June!!! It has just taken that long for them to get it together.

Now if they can just get the door frames for each one built and the feeders and waters put up I will be in business. Lets just hope it doesn't take another 2 months for that. I might have to get out there with my hammer and nails.. LOL

No, she was a black orp, about a year and a half. Her sister lays 5 to 7 days in a row, then 1 or 2 off. I think these birds were bred for appearance, not laying ability. The processing went really well. I kind of thought maybe I'd done something wrong, because it was really easy... but there's nothing left on her that you wouldn't find on a grocery store bird, so I think I'm good! I'm looking forward to crocking my first tough old hen.

I saw this article in the Star yesterday. Is this anyone we know?

I"ll be at the State Fair the 8th. I don't have a BYC shirt, more's the pity. But I do have a straw hat newly adorned with black orp feathers. And I'll be the one in the Luau shirt. I hope to meet a few of you there!

Thanks for the info. I have been wondering when would be the best time to go up there. I live over 1 1/2 hours away and really want to see the chickens. Do you know if anyone sells hatching eggs or breeding pairs at the fair? I really want to improve on my stock. Thanks.

The last two years I haven't seen any chickens, besides a few pairs of laying hens for sale at the 4-H show, this will be my first year going to the open show. You definately wont find any hatching eggs, unless you can convince someone to bring some for you before hand. Though they do have some pigeons and geese for sale normally. Honestly if you want to find some good quality chickens and a lot to look out, a show like bloominton (Sp?) show or lebanon show would be a better show to go to. I have never been to bloomingtion show, but heard there are a lot of birds for sale there. Now I can honestly say, that I came home with twice as many chickens as I went down with.

Well I started in like May and don't even have all my sides up yet lol. The doors are going to be the biggest pain in the butt for me. I didn't do the best job getting the pens square, especially since I didn't even use a square lol. Mine will definately take another 2 months, unless I get my butt in gear. I am doing it by myself, on limited time though. Except, my stepdad did help me one day for like 2 hours. I do much better working alone, so it is best for me to just do it by myself lol.
