INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have a neighbor that has a little flock of banties about half mile away from me. Can't say they give me the willies but I can't figure out for the life of me how these things survive the myriad hawks around here. And his little rooster is quite ornate but the crow is so tiny! I can just imagine my big boy going over there, killing the little guy, and then calling all the girls over to have a meat snack.

Ha! I feel the same way about my neighbor's little chihuahua dogs. If my flock ever got in his yard, I'm pretty sure they'd eat the dogs.

OOOOHHhhhhhhhh.  I didn't expect them to be with the bantams.  I thought silkies were LF.

Tiny chickens give me the willies.  I'm not kidding.  I couldn't walk the bantam isle without squealing like a little girl, and I'm too old and fat for that to be cute.

Really? I was more freaked out by the humongous size of some of the LF chickens. Some of them were giants!

That's fair. There were a few roos there that were massive.

My daughter wants silkies to keep as pets. Not indoors, but possibly in their own coop or tractor.

Not a problem! Hopefully it takes off. We need one for NE Indiana!
I just noticed there was one! That's great!

As far as bantams go, you have to have some to truly appreciate them. They are really neat little things, make great broodies, and eat the crap out of bugs. I have about 30 of them, and they are all sweethearts. The only chickens I can keep 4 or 5 boys together, and they get along great, and don't tear up hens.

And if anyone is interested I have some chickens available.
Pair of bielefelders (3-4months old)
Splash blrw cockerel (4months old)
White silkie cockerel (6 months old)
Blue/silver leakage silkie cockerel (5-6months old)
3 Marans/rock chicks (2-3 weeks old)
1 Birchen Marans or Marans mix chick (2-3weeks old)
Good number of Marans/Marans mixes chicks (day olds)
Naked neck chicks (day old)

Let me know if you are interested in anything

I don't know why bantams bother me. I think I'm afraid of them. They always look like they want to bite someone.

I do have a silkie question - and I know I could look this up, but I'm really tired - How do they see?

With their eyes, Silly!

I really haven't had an issue with them not being able to see. I got the question a lot when I kept my Bouvier's (dog) coat according to breed standard. Believe me, she had no issues seeing.

Agreed. I didn't even know any place else had one. I just see them for everything else and figured, hey why not make a poultry group
