INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey guys, need some advice/wisdom.

I have ten hens. They are 22 weeks last Saturday. One began laying Sunday before last. Everyday she would lay progressively later, and then today, nothing. Just went out in the dark to inspect the coop, run, etc. No egg. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. This obviously is my first flock.

They are fed well, organically, layer feed, supplements, frsh fruit and veg, the whole bit. They have grit and free choice oyster shells.

What, if anything, am I doing wrong or is this just normal? Please help put my mind at ease...

My understanding is that the average interval between laying eggs in chickens is about 25 hours, although this varies across breeds and individuals within breeds. Since this interval is longer than a day, that means many chickens will lay later and later in the day (e.g. 10 am on Monday, 11 am on Tuesday, noon on Wednesday, and so on), until they seem to 'skip' a day. Now, I don't have chickens yet, but I've been reading a lot about chickens and multiple sources do give a similar average time between laying eggs. If this is what is going on, you will likely find an egg from your hen early tomorrow morning.

Went to the State Fair tonight. Had a nice time in the poultry house. Seemed like the majority of the chickens were submitted by Brandi Powell. Is she one of us BYCrs? Her entry fees must've been CRAZY!

They don't charge per bird. It cost me $45 to enter but I also didn't buy a sales pen. Trust me I wouldn't over enter it if they did!

They ha been sleeping a LOT today, except for the one that is still alive, which hasn't shut up all day, as silly a it sounds I almost wonder if it knew they were dying. Now that I am all upset and have a headache I will not be able to go to sleep for a few more hours and I also have a little polish chick that doesn't understand where it's buddies went. I think I will get craigslist to find a few chicks so it isn't alone
CCCHICKENS ~ How upsetting! Not only because they died, but also because you don't know why. That's so frustrating.
@SallyinIndiana ~ Sorry to hear about your duckling!
@chick rookie ~ I've been thinking about you and wondering about Honey's Wry Neck?

Thanks. And I love to whistle, especially when I do chores. And I used to have a radio in the barn and would sing when I did chores, because it takes like an hour. And I will admit I jokingly sing the little kid song that at the end says 9 10 big fat hen to my white rocks because they are fat chickens lol

Off topic for chickens....

Anyone here know a breeder of Holland Lop rabbits? I'm interested in getting one, trying to avoid Craigslist for now. There aren't many advertised for sale currently anyway. I'm headed back to the fair this Friday so I will look for contacts there but thought I'd check here too. I was at the fair this past Sunday but the rabbits weren't there. Don't know if I was too early or too late.

I'm not looking to show in 4h, just a good natured pet. I'd love to get one as young as possible to socialize early on.

Thanks
