OK, so there is this series of books by Douglas Adams, starting with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
It's a trilogy with five books (yes, I know that doesn't make sense): "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", "Restaurant at the End of the Universe", "Life, the Universe and Everything", "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish", "Mostly Harmless". The Hitchhiker's Guide was also made into a radio show in England, a BBC TV show, as well as a Hollywood movie.
Anyway, one of the themes of the series is the question 'what is the meaning of life'. In the end, it turns out the answer is 42. I highly recommend the series, if you like funny Sci-fi. I didn't like the movie as much, but partly that's because the book just doesn't translate well into the format. I don't recall any chickens in the series, but there are definitely some interesting farm animals. Plus some pretty cool dolphins.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

I'm definitely going to be reducing my flock size before winter. I'm looking for someone that might be interested in a couple of adult hens and one girl that will be 1 year old on labor day weekend.
Only problem is, I'm a little like Kab in that I'm looking for optimal situation where they have large housing for winter and are able to free-range as much as possible during the summer. I need to know that if they're bringing them into an established flock that they would practice initial quarantine, etc.
These girls are all laying well. But, of course, they will likely come into a fall molt and slow down during the winter which is good for their system to rest and restore.
Anyhow...if I haven't scared anyone away and you might be interested, send me a pm. The youngest of these ladies is a SFH/Black Australorp mix. She's almost solid black with a cherry red comb and a normal sized crest so she's a pretty little thing. The older birds are just hatchery reds and possibly a BR.
Would need to be someone in Northern Indiana.

OK so I guess you know you just smashed me completely out ta the picture! Lol. I'm not in Northern Indiana and I just rehomed four "reds" cuz they were to aggressive with my other girls and i vowed not to get more of them! If anyone would like a map of your county, like the one on my avatar, I will be happy to provide one. If someone wants a combo map and a chicken or an animal for your avatar, I can put that together for you, just PM me. When I read posts, many times I think “Now where are they from?” I look at the city and still have no idea what part of the state they’re from. The map icon with the county in red because you could quickly glance and see where the member who is posting is from. These avatars are not required-- they are just a free service if you’re interested.

If members would like me to change the photo(s) on their avatars, just PM me. Someone might have a picture of a chick that has grown into a hen (or a roo!) and would like to update the photo or someone might like something totally different.

Cluck Acres (Curtis) set up a Google Map for just us INDIANA BYC’ers. You must first log on to your Google account or make a Google account. (If you have gmail, just use your gmail password). All you have to do is go to this link....http://goo.gl/maps/UShV6 . Here are the directions. You will see the state of Indiana.. Zoom in to where you live and then click on the red button that says Edit. After you click Edit you will see a hand, blue pin point and a zig zag line on the map. Click the pin point and drag it to where you live on the map. After you have placed your pin point then click on it and you can edit your description by adding your county. If you want to change your blue pin point to another icon or upload your own then up on the right of that box click the pin point icon and choose others or upload your own icon. If anyone has problems with this feel free to ask.
