INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Oh boy I found more Hoosier!! I am new to BYC and the whole chicken owning area. Just finished my coop (for the most part) and now looking for hens. Any advise, suggestions are welcome!!

Welcome! This is a really great group, esp. for a newbie. I'm still pretty green myself. ;-)

My suggestion for starting a flock is to get young chicks from one of the really great breeders here on the Indy thread. There are many really great folks here, and a wide variety of breeds to be had.

The reason I make this suggestion is that in my own experience, I bought "grown out" pullets from two different sources - one was reputable, one was not so much. As a new chickener, I didn't know enough about what to look for in the pullets. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end, and I have a happy, healthy flock now. But I would have had much less worry and stress if I had started fresh birds all at the same time.

Welcome. I'm pretty new too, and still working on our coop and run. This is a great thread with a wonderful community. Very friendly and happy to give advice. There are many who will be able to help you find chicks for your flock. :jumpy

What kind of bad experiences?

I would like to know what bad experiences you had with the Wyandottes specifically. I have 2 silver laced and 3 golden chicks and they are more skittish than all the other chicks. I can easily pick all but the Wyandottes up. Am I in for a rough ride with these birds?
