INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Oh...speaking of molting! I'm only getting 1 egg a day and I think it's coming from a young pullet. Every girl is molting! This is the worst one and she looks better than just last week! I thought she'd freeze! All you could see were pin feathers! Crazy. Never had one so bald! Hahaha!

All of my birds are in moult. Cranky, don't touch me and I will bite you mode. Its terrible! My older chinese goose hen Snowy even bit me tonight! She was angry because I wasn't filling the feeders fast enough, oboy. Snowy got picked up and carried around a while. Very surprised she was so aggressive! I have upped protein in all the coops until molt is over.
Quote: Sheds are soo fantastic to convert to a coop. You make it to what fits your needs. All of ours were "free" if we removed them.

X2 please share all you have! I love seeing them!
We have 2 of the playhouse coops. I love them, they are just so cute and brighten up the yard.

I got this one at Dinky's for $20, i just couldn't pass that up. We haven't put a run on it yet, but we are going to soon. I think it will make a good breeding coop/grow out pen in the spring.
They are too cute. Fast easy coop too!

Picked up a pair of faverolles today at the shipshewana swap meet

Super busy with the barn clean up, some other family issues. hope everyone is doing well! My apologies and welcome to any new members I have missed.
I have so many birds molting, they are all so unhappy! have had my first -0- egg day since last winter. UGH really stinks! Have a lot frozen, but have some egg customers tha'ts impatient too. I have explained that farm raised natural eggs are not year around. Oh well.
Enjoyed a nice campfire at home tonight, and heading to bed. Nite everyone!

We got down to only getting 1 per day. Now they are starting to lay again. Got 8 today including this tiny egg I found.... In my palm.

So guys... whats your feelings? What breeds of chicken have been the best in your opinion, the worst? I am trying several heritage, some new breeds. There are so many new and interesting breeds out there, I am very curious to hear opinions. If you had to choose a single breed to fit your needs, what is it, and why?
I have had the best overall production, and luck with wyandottes, roosters can be aggressive. Personality, my orps are people friendly, some roos are not good to their hens. Leghorn, fantastic egg production, personality is flighty and not social to people. EEs are all over the board, but are truly just a mix/mutt bird. RIR have been good roosters, good layers. same for barred plymouth rocks. BRs are probably my favorite! I have a mature Swedish flower hen rooster I am very impressed with so far. Good rooster, friendly to people. Young adult I am working with arecrested cream legbars, so far I like them very much.
What would you choose, and why? lets help folks new to chicken keeping decide what breeds to look at first.

We love our silkies but I wish I'd gotten more birds, or some LF. Right now I'm getting one or two bantam eggs a day with three bantams laying (EE, PR, and silkie). I was concerned about everyone having enough space in our run/coop. I will probably push the limit in the spring because I'd rather not have to buy eggs elsewhere. My guinea hasn't started laying yet, so maybe I will change my mind once all 4 hens + the guinea are giving me eggs, but right now I feel like I could have used 8 bantams or the 4 I have plus 2 LF. (At least!)
