I'm really excited to announce that I made a decision on what breeds I want to start out with and have placed my order with Meyer hatchery for an April delivery! Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks, females, five of each. Its going to be such a long wait, but gives me plenty of time to have everything ready for them!

Congratulations on making a great choice.

I have both of these breeds and they are just great. They like to follow me around the yard and they talk a lot. Great egg layers and just awesome beauty to watch in the yard. I am still getting eggs from most of my girls and they get pretty good sized. I hope you enjoy your new family come spring.

What breed are the rabbits?

We bring the babies in at night. It gives the mom a break and let's me watch the babies to make sure they are okay. Also rabbits have been known to eat their babies at night if they are startled. Rabbits only nurse twice a day for first couple weeks and then once a day.

Anybody have fertile eggs in northern Indiana. Want to hatch soon!! I will have my bator built by next week. Got my brooder ready. I'm thinking about buying eggs online. But would rather shop local.

I have a friend asking to buy goose eggs for consumption. Does anybody near Indy have geese that are laying?

My friend breeds rabbits. When it gets below negative she will put a heat lamp on them. She also leaves them with the mother until it is time to wean them. The mothers will sometimes kill kits that they think has something wrong with them (some of them are just bad mothers and will kill all the kits). Just somethig to prepare yourself for. I wouldn't seperate the kits away though until it is time to be weaned
