INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'd be more likely to order a long sleeve or hoodie. I have TONS of totes, my SIL sells 31 ;)
I NEED some of your marans eggs ;-P the 4 girls I got from you (my broody hatched) haven't started laying yet but hopefully soon!

I will send a notice for everyone once they have been separated for spring breeding. I need to get on that! I swear every day the sun comes out and it gets 40F I tell myself...Ooo I need to start... Then next day it's snowing/raining or just too cold! I really want to get them done before the end of Feb so that month of waiting that they are pure will be in March. Hmmm

Close up! Lol

The really russet red egg that's not in the egg holder is pretty small compared to my mature Marans hens. I'm hoping it's from one of the few girls hatched last year! It's a beauty! You can tell the difference from the Marans hen eggs in the holder vs the one that isn't. I love the dark eggs, but may like that red color even better! Still have to figure out who laid it. I'm sure yours will start soon. Did you ever get recent pics of them posted?

The T-shirts for the 2015 chicken fest should be going on sale soon, within the next week or 2. More information to come soon as well.

Up next is what other item would you like to see this year? A long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, a tote bag, now is the time to provide input as it looks like there might be 2 items for sale this year in support of the 2015 chicken fest.

hoodie would be great

Does anyone here breed or know of someone that breeds Black Bantam Cochins? Or have a Rooster?

I have 3 Black Bantam Cochin ladies that I would like to get a Rooster for...or add some more ladies to. Just thought I would check here. I would rather get something local or nearby so I thought this would be a good place to start.

I wouldn't mind some Frizzles either!

I found a pair of white Silkies...but I just really like the Cochins! This below is Big Mama...I also have her two daughters! I haven't had them for very long, but they are just the cutest little things!

So adorable I love her.

She's so cute! I love the bantam Cochin too! I have a pair I'll be hatching more babes from this Spring. Already have an interested party for May babes if that's of any interest to you. I already sold a pair hatched back in Oct. frizzled boy with smooth girl. My roo is frizzled.

Here's the roo. Hen looks much like you pictured. She's more rounded though.

He looks pretty rough at the moment. He could use a bath! He's had plenty of them and loves it. He's such a good boy!! His tail is pretty ratty but winter months will do that!
ok too many pic's to quote, would take up a whole page... lol
love the pic's, once we get moved I might just have to some of those.

Whopper of an egg today by a blue Marans hen! I haven't weighed it yet but geez!! I also had an extra dark egg today smaller than my big girls lay but where my blue pullet has been laying but her first few were very speckled. Hmmm
I want BCM's so bad, I would love to have those dark eggs in my basket... but trying not to get a bunch of new critters right yet, it would be that much harder to move . I have at least 2 days of Just moving critters as it is.... lol

Ok weighed in at a whopping 82 grams! My largest Marans egg in the holder in the pic is 74 grams which is still a large egg. All my Marans girls lay nice large eggs. Fun!
That IS a big egg, congrats, hope its a double yoker maybe even a triple, only had 1 of those ever... but it was exciting. lol

Red is cool. Please let us know who laid it when you find out.

now it brain picking time.
Was given these 5 hens over the weekend by a man that was getting out of chickens. He didnt know what he had, He said they were chickens what else do you need to know???? Sooo I am thinking Leghorns, but the comb aint big enough and they are round and short tails, well the ones that have tails, they arent in the best shape but I'm working on it. They are supper sweet, they started following me around the 1st day. and today I was on my hands and knees cleaning out the old bedding and replacing it when 2 of them jumped on my back and stayed there the whole time I was working. I'm falling hard for these girls.

This last girl is always puffed up like she is cold but don't show ant signs of being sick. ??
Any op's on what breed they might be would be great. Not that it matters I just like to know what I got.
and yes I know I just said above that I am TRYING to not get any more critters, but I couldn't see these girls get their heads pulled off cause no one would take them.

I'm not sure about breed. Doesn't look like a Leghorn. Maybe a cross. They have a CX look to them if you ask me!? I would immediately worm them, treat with Corid and dust them or drench, whatever you use for external parasites. But that's just me. I don't know of any reason not to, and rather be safe than sorry. They may bring in a diff strain of cocci (or a number of other parasites) if not treated prior to commingling with your existing flock. Have you not quarantined them?

Snapped a few pics of the buff barred bantam cochins. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

This one is feisty! Already chest bumping my hand when I reach into the brooder! But honestly probably my favorite so far.

The slowest to feather out, maybe a cockerel?

I have done all that, I started that practice after loosing my whole flock from an illness brought in from some other birds. they are in their own yard away from my other birds, I will keep them there for at least a month, maybe more, depending on how well they do at that point.
I was wondering about CX but I thought they would be bigger if that was the case. But I don't really know allot about CX. I don't know of many white feathered birds, So kinda limited on my guesses... lol I am also thinking that they are young. Maybe close to laying but not yet. they aren't doing the squat thing yet but at least 3 of them have good red combs, not expecting anything egg wise out of them yet with the change in living environment and all anyway.
Just cant get over how friendly they are already.

For heat packs, I've found that Pangea Reptiles has the best price when just buying a couple (if you are looking for wholesale qty then I'd look for a wholesaler to get best price). The website is www.pangeareptile.com. I've bought both supplies and live reptiles from him and always a great experience.
Are these different than the ones you get for skiing, hunting, etc.? I think those are called boot warmers or hand warmers. I'm just wondering. I've never tried to ship anything living.

They are longer lasting. Most hand/boot warmers last 24hrs or less. These will last 24hrs+.
