I posted this on FB and was requested to repost here.

This is a Chicken Fest Post.
There has been talk of having auctions for hatching eggs. The eggs would be donated by someone in our group and the money from the auction would go to help fund the Chicken fest. An auction might even have multiple flock owners willing to donate and the winner would have their choice of eggs. That would depend on the availability of eggs.

I'm looking for input. Are there buyers / bidders out there wanting eggs. Timing, is there a bidder right now that would like to pick up this weekend? If not what is the soonest time frame to start bidding?

Are all potential bidders comfortable making their bidding posts public, meaning in your facebook settings you need to make sure your posting setting is set to public and not friends of friends at the time you post your bid?

Also it was requested that I note why the auctions are on FB and not BYC. It is due to the ease of following the auctions. Many auctions on BYC move so fast and available eggs change so much, sometimes keeping up is not simple for the new bidders, myself included.

morning everyone ....

I so would like to make it to the meet up....when is it again...any date been assigned
Working out the date now!

On the Bieles, yes, I wanted them, but I hadn't figured I'd see any around, and the book we were looking in didn't have them listed. I love their coloring, and I'm a sucker for crele in general :D I prefer bigger birds to smaller ones because they're sturdier......... Our experience with banties so far is that they're aloof, love to escape and hard to catch.

I live in Indianapolis, but the only eggs I'm getting are from the ducks now. I have fertile eggs from my Pekin drakes over Pekin, Rouen and Black Swedish hens. They've laid really well all winter, but I've had a heat lamp on in the coop for the days it's well below freezing. Muscovy's the sweetest, but I don't think it's been laying (how old were those ducklings you gave me, Jchnny?). If anybody wants duck eggs, they're free, but I have no idea which ones are whose, so you're very likely to get a mix. Good news is that I've heard they're tasty as adults and know they lay huge, tasty eggs year round. If anyone wants adults ducks, I can part with all but two.

If I had a 'bator, I'd be trying to hatch silkies and bieles. They're gorgeous and sweet, and sweet's exactly what I'm going for. Regarding silkies, I like all colors, but feathered feet are going to get really dirty really fast (the ducks have killed all my grass!).
She would be about 6/8 months old, typically the spring after they hatch. Muscovy begin laying around march so it wont be long.

Anyone around Indy have any EE chicks?
Yes, have started setting EE eggs so hatching will begin in 3 weeks. I am not far from you, just north of Ingalls, South of Pendleton. Welcome to our thread!

Hi guys...it's been a while, June it shows, since I've been around...
We've been dealing with not so nice people in our tiny town. Someone got a hold of most of our flock. Found them with broken necks in a pile inside our run. Literally in a pile. My 2 Khaki Campbell ducks were killed at the same time. I'm down to 5 hens and an EE roo that like to roost up high, probably the only reason they weren't hurt. I'm convinced I got word outto the right people that we would be installing locks/cameras and WILL prosecute anyone who steps foot on our property. Have decided not to discuss this with our family because they worry :-\

Thinking about building the flock back up but haven't decided 100% though. No more ducks, for sure. They were my buddies and that hurt the most.
Anyway, anger is *slowly* going away and I need to be around some chicken awesomeness here.
I'll try to stay active and not have such a long absence from here again!
The evil in this situation comes from drug use. We are very vocal in our stance against illegal drugs in our town and we are pretty sure this was a little retribution. Can't do anything, legally, because we've only heard talk...no REAL proof (according to local authorities).

All will be well again soon. Just bummed and finally realized this would be a good place to get rid of the chicken blues.
I am so terribly sorry and horrified to read this. And angry someone could do this to you and your poor birds! We are always here so sound off all you need to, it helps to talk stuff out.

I'm still in shock that a person (or people) could do such a thing. And, for no reason but to cause pain. I'm so sorry for your losses.

Our coop/run doesn't have a lock. When building we only considered digging, flying, climbing, crawling, & clawing predators. I didn't even think about problems with the 2-legged kind. We never thought of installing pad lock.

I sincerely hope you decide to build your flock up again & not let those cruel people change your way of life.
