INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Forgot to share one of the weirder things that happened today: My black Australorp was visiting on the windowsill today and decided to lay an egg while up there! I look over and something falls, my daughter says "It's an egg" and the rest of the girls pounce on it like they've never seen an egg before and start a combo of pecking/ chicken soccer. Wierd. It didn't break!

thats such a cool pic of the rock band...and their mohawks...i cant wait till mom gives me my chickens...lol she has been hording them...she doesnt raise chickens...either...but when she got them she fell in love with them ....they are white crested black polish..after the snow melts ill get them..

All this talk of Polish chickens reminds me of our little 80s hair band:

They were part of my daughter's 4H project involving hatching shipped eggs. Someone wanted SQ Silver Laced Polish, & DD wanted as much data as possible. He paid for the eggs. DD hatched them & raised the chicks for about 4 weeks. Poor hatch rate on the shipped eggs (only 3 chicks out of 8 eggs), but no chicks died. Thankfully, they were never really ours, so giving them up was not very difficult. Sure were cute, though!
So cute!!

My First MG bantam chick has hatched!!!!!!!

Sooooo tiny, and can't wait to get it out of the incubator! Hoping the 2nd egg hatches. Have 5 LO out so far too, and 1 EE.Will be pulling chicks later once I see they are dry, and rewetting the sponges. Frankie took a week off, actually almost 2! So am anxiously waiting her next eggs. I think its a deep blue chick too, too wet to tell yet.
Super excited to see the hatch rate is going so well even with the temps here. If the eggs aren't split from freezing, they are hatching!

CONGRATS!

Van Zeller tells the intimate story of one farmer, so frustrated with the conditions created by corporate chicken farming that he decides to speak out. Fusion was there for six months as Craig Watts wrestled with becoming a whistleblower, exposed the conditions on farms, got nationwide attention for stepping forward, and then saw how the multi-billion dollar chicken industry reacted. In fact, last week Watts filed a complaint accusing Perdue Farms of intimidation after he publicized animal welfare concerns and the plight of farmers.

CHICK DAYS
I was at RK Evansville West today to buy some chicken supplies, and I admired all of the little chicks and ducklings. I asked a guy working in that area where the chicks came from, and he said Townline Poultry Farm In Zeeland, Michigan. Then he gave me a brochure about the hatchery, which looks like a big operation. I saw this sign saying that they had Araucanas and noticed in the brochure that they specifically say they have "Araucana - Ameraucana Strain" - "Not to be confused with Easters Eggers as these are purebred."

I liked the little Rouen ducklings. Has anyone had any of that breed before?

Oooh They will be pretty! And yes, I do plan to return merchandise "Mixed-up Order" to you. lol The only reason I plan on returning the two green egg laying girls is to make more room. They are beautiful, good layers, and very personable although they've been picking each others tail-feathers. I think it's that jealous sister thing. As soon as the weather warms up and I don't need them to help keep little Monday warm, I'll let you know when I'm heading your way. And no, I don't think I need any Emu hatching eggs! haha You have so many exciting things going on!
