INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

This reminds me of something that happens with the Silver Fox rabbits.  They were developed in 2 color varieties -- blue and black.  Now I can't remember if it was due to the 2 original breeds used to develop the Silver Fox or because someone about 50 years ago bred in a white breed, but there are SF rabbit that now carry this white gene.  We have heard of people having a white SF pop out of a litter with a pedigree of solely black & blue varieties for decades of generations.  Could this be possible with your frizzle?  Perhaps long ago in the genetic history of one of the parents there had been a frizzle orp???

Feather gene/structure is different than color alleles.

I stand firm to say there is no way two non frizzled parents produced a frizzled offspring.

I'm sure the young AM she has mixed up with yours just hasn't gotten it's beard yet or ever. That happens. They definitely do sport beards if they've gotten though right after fluffing up! ;)

I don't know much about Orps. Is there leg color or another feature you could review to point out it couldn't have come from your breeding. Or do you have a frizzle boy?

I'm going to go read about the breed now. Orps that is! Lol

@kittydoc My first inclination is to say that she got her eggs or chicks mixed up and that it isn't actually one of yours. However, PW's explanation is somewhat plausible as well. I once had a pair of silver-pied peafowl from a line of silver pieds, and never got anything except blues from them. My understanding was that blue is dominant and so this should not have happened.
It used to be that when a child didn't look like either parent, blame was placed on the milkman.

I'd love to keep bees too, but I live in town (Anderson) and my neighbors are close, they might not like it. :hmm

Glad you found us! I don't have the links handy but I know someone will give them to you, but we have member lists etc for finding us and our breeds you can get added to if you'd like.

Are you new to chickens?? If not what kinds do you have??

A am new to chickens, and at the moment, I have none. I am however expecting delivery of some Barred Plymouth Rock chicks at the end of the month from efowl.com, this will be a new adventure for me. I've got my brooder setup and still currently working on my coop, but should have it completed shortly.
