INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Howdy all! Life has been a bit crazy here! I got a bunch done outside today, got all of the heated waterers pulled and swapped and got some trees/bushes down and grass seed spread. I am wiped!

I have been hatching quite a bit in my coolerbator and this latest hatch have so far hatched 9/11 that made it to lock down. Today is day 21 (this round hatched early!) so I still have hope on at least one of the remaining eggs. I worried my hatch percentages would be terrible in my homemade incubator and have been pleasantly surprised! I do have to admit, I am having trouble letting these teeny Bielie babies go! I may have to hatch some extra for myself!!!!

I think I saw that someone else grabbed up a juvenile Bielie pair, I can't wait to hear how you like them! I am obsessed with the breed myself!

In other news I had two angry broodies giving me death stares while I cleaned the coop today. Tis the season! Those girls are getting broken! No more half wild chicks that I can't touch or socialize!
Totally agree. If they are not penned and pure bred, I am not going to hatch. We are working on our muscovy pens now, I have got my first egg this week. They lay in a nest box, rather than the ground, so its pretty easy to pick out their eggs. I pulled all my heated bowls, buckets and tank heaters too. Ahhhhh spring

I adore my Beilie hen, impressive eggs! Love the egg color too. I need a fella for her!

Glad to find this place was looking for indiana folks! Greensburg indiana checking in!

Glad you found us! Just jump right in, and we don't mind if you talk about other livestock or poultry.

Got the 2 main coops cleaned out and resanded and fresh straw in the nest boxes. Had to clip some wings today too. Trying to keep my girls a little safer. They didn't know what to think. I still had one or two that got out and of course the rooster wasn't having anything of the confinement. He just jumped the 4 foot fence, but then he didn't understand why none of his girls didn't follow him, he kept making that "I FOUND SOMEthiNG Great" call and they just stood at the fence watching him. He eventually just jumped back in.

I also think I have a broodie silkie, which couldn't come at a better time. I have some awesome eggs from @kabhyper1 and I think my silkie will make a great momma to them and then I don't have to worry about my incubator killing the eggs. Scarlett is a really great broodie, she takes it very seriously. I'll have to wait a day or to to make sure, but she didn't move all day today, so hears hoping

. At this moment my DH is actually watching utube vids on how to make a DIY incubator. I need more room than what the styros can provide and I am so tired of the temp fluctuations. I have a test hatch hatching right now and I have gotten 3 chicks so far and I started with 41 eggs. It's a brand new FI 9300, i thought the digital controls would be so much better, but now I don't know what to think. I have 2 other styros going to and it seems that I have had some awful temps this weekend and I never touched them.

I'm hoping everything will still be okay but we will have to see next weekend. I just hope I get more than 3 chicks. I have some really cool eggs that I am looking so forward to seeing. Well anyway hope everyone had a great weekend. It looks like the weather is going to warm up this week so it's something to look forward too.
Sounds busy! Hope you can get the incubators leveled out, its so frustrating! I started with a cooler bator, and 3 styrofoam LGs. Learned real fast, put them in a room that does not have temp fluctuations. Once I got the humidity and temp issues figured out, I soon had a whole lotta babies

Someone on here needs to buy these so we can potentially swap bloodlines!

Watching the listing now!
One more (unchicken related) thing I had to share. Apparently the sit com writings are short on material and have their hidden cameras in our house again. I was standing at my sink this afternoon. I had just finished making gluten free chocolate chip cookie batter (and figuring out why I was actually going to bake it instead of just passing out spoons) and heard this funny noise. I figured out what it was when I opened the doors under my sink and old faithful erupted with scalding hot water going everywhere. I'm yelling at the kids get me towels and buckets. My hubby is an amputee and frantically trying to get his leg on to see what in the world is goign on (he can't just jump up and run over)! I could not see where it was coming from. My son had to go down and turn the hot water heater valve off. There was this tiny little connector that came lose and wreaked havoc on my whole kitchen!

Our stove up and quit tonight with lots of sparks and stink. The burners still work, but I had a 28 pound "ham" leg I had planned to slow cook a day, and make pulled pork and fajita meat! Glad I didn't pull it out of deep freeze yet. Looking for an electric stove, CHEAP guys! We have another that's gas in storage, but not set up for gas or propane here right now.

Not quite! lol. I'm not holding my breath. What's the saying, don't count your chickens before they hatch? Just hoping they do!

Any leads at all on the culprits? It makes me sick that you've lost chickens to the hooligans. How is your mom doing? I hope she hasn't fallen anymore.

I love the crowing too. We have several roosters in our neighborhood and it is music to my ears!

Yumm I can just smell the pulled pork you can't have now. Hoping you find a cheap stove soon! No leads yet... Lots of the guys parking randomly by the barn, love it.I have a really simple recipe for pulled pork BBQ, KC masterpiece, and let it alone in the crock pot aside from stirring several times. I add a lil garlic, pepper and Worcestershire. Since I like HOT and spicy stuff, I save a few pounds for fajita and add alot of texas pete of whatever tabasco sauce and freeze it.

@Mother2Hens
That's ok and I hope you hear back from them as I can't seem to get anywhere myself maybe you will have better luck.

Well of the 4 Emu eggs 3 are properly losing weight and 2 of them are tilted as if they're weighted on one end however at day 36 and No wiggles when trying for the "wiggle test" which involves removing from incubating and while on the counter as they cool for 5 mins should wiggle if there's a little one in there. No wiggles. No foul odor from any of them so back in they went. I will be highly disappointed if not a one hatches but everything I read about far distance shipping doesn't sound promising. The fact that 2 were busted upon arrival doesn't give high hopes either. Then again the Banty Cochin eggs came fromCA and 4 of those hatched!! You'd think these monstrous eggs would be much more resistant but who knows. They came from Cali as well. ?? Blah!!

hatching vibes! If its not a definite clear, it goes back into the bator here! The distance the eggs traveled would worry me too.
