On to better fun! Easter HAL has been quite fun as it is my first time participating in any HAL. I set 31 into a new (new to me) brinsea, all from my flock, with all covered by my different Roos. I have only had to pull 1 at my day 13 candling. Lockdown on Thursday for me. My silkie broody is being an awesome momma to her newly hatched Cochins and silkies. My other broody is sitting intently on more Cochin eggs and I recently broke down and put more eggs in that awful styro again! I swore I wouldn't but I did! Set some shipped porcelain and Millie d'uccle eggs and slipped in a couple of my own Cochin and silkie egg. One of my white silkies finally started laying and I just separated them so I don't know if what I sat will be pure or not and it was one of her first eggs but I just went ahead and set it to see what would become of it.

So let's see. That's 59 chicken eggs and 4 Emu eggs. Lol! My aunt set 12 of my eggs for the Easter HAL too! ;) Of course some of these babes will go onto other homes but will have lots of little ones soon. Well hopefully. Haha!

I'm sorry, that stinks! Unfortunately that's all to common with dairy bulls. :(

I hope your Charolais is tasty! He's a good looking steer!

Thank you he is really nice looking, pics don't do him justice he would be a good show steer. Shootin for Nov to process. I may need a larger freezer lol

I have 38 out of 40 eggs going into lock down on 4-1. Mostly barnyard mix from my farm and kabhyper1's. But there are a few of kab's silkie's and Cochin eggs in there. Hopefully I get a high percentage of hatching.

Wow, over 150 posts! I have only been gone for a few days, busy with my first broody hen who just hatched some eggs! All 6 hatched and she is an excellent mama. 4 D'Anvers and 2 Silkies! Also, put 13 eggs in the incubator for a little girl who raises silkies for 4-h show, I added 11 of my own.

We had thought we found a good place for our Rooster, Rico. We were going to drop off our Rooster at a guy who inquired about him on craigslist...It got close to the time to load him up in the car and take him...and I told my husband that I just cannot do it, he is my first rooster ever, and he is not always mean at all. I told him that I trust his judgement and that I would find something wrong with anyone. So my husband left, I got a call about 20 minutes later with him saying "NO WAY am I leaving him at that house" For my husband to say that, it must be bad. So back to the drawing board!

EMERGENCY! My friend woke up to find her cat got into the brooder. Her 3 year olds RIR chick is gone and she is desperately trying to find another RIR about the same age - 1 week. A red sexlink would probably work too. Anyone have any or know someone who does? Please PM me, thanks!

If your friend got the RIR at a RK/TSC, etc... you may want to have her check back there. Sometimes they still have some after a week, and you could get one exactly like what she had.

Since it's time to color Easter Eggs I thought I'd share pics from last year. Instead of using store bought dye packs we used Wilton Icing colors. We dissolved random amounts of the icing colors into mugs of hot water & 1 T. vinegar/mug. The brown eggs get dyed to beautiful dark colors & our color options were endless because we could mix together colors however we wanted. I think we ended up with 20 some mugs of different colors!!

The 3 eggs in the carton lid were white duck eggs we blew out & then dyed -- they didn't end up nearly as vibrant as the brown eggs.
