INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Do you have any issues with predators getting into those CX tractors?

Nope, I would say they are to heavy for anything to lift. If you were to use hardware cloth that would make them even safer. But even with my set up I have had no predator loss. I use a good latch and hinges on the door.

Okay, I got a really good laugh out of training a rooster to not crow b4 noon. That is hysterical.
Hi guys too many quotes... lol so I'll just say it like this: I love all the pic's!!!!! I'll share some in a minute too although I don't have the fancy chicks you guys come up with, some of them I have never even heard of... but that aint saying too much, it was just 2 years ago I found out that there are chickens OTHER then your standard everyday layers... lol Happy to hear of the chicken recoverys and sorry about the sick and lost. I have had so much of that I feel your pain, course I think we all do. 1 of the great things about this group... we all understand, and NO ONE thinks U R NUTS. and thanks so much on the close up and explaining your chicken tractor, I just love the ideal and am putting DH to work... again.. O BTW he says thanks!!... lol So now for some news around our little farm... moved momma silkie out to her own house and run till I can put them all together, anyone have suggestions on what age I can do that? My SLW just don't seem to be growing, probably just me. But I thought they would have little feathers started out by now??? Do have a cute story about them, yesterday during feed time I heard them peeping loudly so I went to check on them and 1 had gotten a BIG bug, those brown flying hard shelled things, and it was being chased by the other 3 trying to steal her prize... lol should have seen it the bug was as big as she is... well almost but you get it... lol My "drunken trouble maken few doors down neighbor" and yes that's what I call him. Actually came over and asked if I and " my chicken friend " ( I think he was talking about our new neighbors that moved in last year ) could teach our Roosters to NOT crow till like noon..... he was serious... I laughed so hard I almost cried... told him I would get right on that, but he would have to go ask the other chicken person to do the same with his birds... Why should I be the only one to get a laugh out of it??? right?? or was I just being mean??? lol My BIG littles (CX's) are doing great, and one of them is a roo I'm sure, he follows me around so close I tripped myslef trying not to step on him yesterday... but it is cute, so far loving their personalities. The roo is called Waddles and the pullet is Chubs. I absolutely am in-love with my 2 SF's or " Fish Chickens " as DH calls them ... lol Still not sure that my BA are BA's but oh well they are here now. Now I'll shut up and get to the pic's. Sorry such a long post. will have to post more latter ( yes I have more lol )my internet is taking way too long to load the pic's. Hope everyone has a great day.

Anybody know if Townline crosses Penedesencas and Marans to their Welsummers to "improve" them? My roo looks to be developing a crown comb and the oldest hen has unshaven legs. They're not really "feathered" the way my Brahmas are, but she has teeny tiny stubble feathers poking out between the scales on her legs. I'm starting to think my opinion of Townline can't get lower. I've already caught them shipping the wrong breeds to Rural King and trying to say they're Easter Eggers are purebred... but is this going a mite too far? Plus, all my Wyandottes have the wrong combs. So glad I'm not showing any chickens.

Oh, and, does anyone want more ducks? My Black Swedish has been broody since the start of the year (turns out my dad's been sneaking eggs under her and staggering all the hatches so the nest is never empty) and now the muscovy's broody too. I have four from the most recent hatch, one from the wasteland between the other hatches, and five from the first hatch Easter weekend. The only purebred duckling is a splay-legged Pekin (probably a drake), but the Pekin/Rouen crosses might be sex linked, and the five Pekin/Black Swedish chicks are old enough to sex (three drakes, two ducks). The quaking is likely driving my neighbors crazy so I'd like to preemptively rehome some, if anyone's interested.

In other news, my budding tom is shaping up to be a jerk and will be prettier on the table when he gets big enough. Still looks like three hens and one tom, all BB. Is it normal for male and female BB bronze to feather differently? The tom is much lighter than the hen (who is much bigger as yet and maybe a week older). Most of his feathers have a lot of white at their bases, but she has more feathers and less white. Matters rather little what he is, I suppose because unless his attitude towards the girls improves... On one hand, I did purchase four with the aim of eating the jerk, but that doesn't mean I like this little jerk beating up his girls. He grabs on their necks and hauls them around. I'm worried he's going to draw blood and seriously hurt them before he's big enough to eat. May have to exile him some where else in the mean time.

So I am thinking about downsizing and focusing on just a few breeds. I want to focus on LF cochin, bantam cochin, silkies, and mile Fleur d'uccles. If i do this I am going to have lots of birds for sale. I will be getting rid of my wyandotts, golden laced and silver laced, some white leg horns, Old English Games, porcelain d'uccles and maybe a few barred rocks. IS there anyone on here that would be interested let me know. I would rather my birds go to peeps that I know than to people on craigslist. I am also going to have some frizzle/polish chicks available soon. These are a project I am working on. I'll get some pics and post them later.

First successful broody hatch. I know it is hard to see but the new chick is sitting in her food dish. The broody is a blue Ameraucana. She will not let me anywhere near. She is very protective. She growls and goes into full attack mode. I wore gloves to try to lift her and it seems that the other eggs are still unhatched. I did not find the egg shell that this baby hatched from. Would she have ate them? I wanted to clean up if necessary.

very late notice so sorry about that. But I will be heading to Anderson area on Sunday. If anyone needs birds taken up that way I'm sure we could work something out.
Also Brad how far from Anderson are you? If you have a current list of any large fowl chicks/ chickens for sell I'd like to see it. I'll have turkey eggs to set on Monday that you could talk me out of.
