Happy Anniversary! Ours was last weekend :) we spent it in Wisconsin!!

Ok, I think I have a strange request here, but I'll try it. I would like to find a pattern of a chicken or roo profile that is about 3 to 4 feet tall. I'd like to jigsaw this out of plywood, paint it, and attach it to my hen house! Any suggestions ?

I have one made of boards, from a yardsale. Will try to get a picture of mine as it may give you some ideas. I need to paint mine! Mine was missing the top tail feathers but a friend had me draw what to add and he cut it out for me. I think mine may be shorter, never measured it.

@creek bank if you do a search for "rooster profile silhouette images," you get some great ones, maybe see which one fits your fa vote breed's shape or the one you take a fancy to. You could make a whole family of them. :)

Been nice day out. To bad I'm at work. Where I seem to be a lot lately. I have a friend coming out to build me a 12'x12' coop next weekend. Due to the fact I'm always at work. I plan to get on my chickens in there do they have a couple of acres to range on. I go home yesterday I have my ISA Brown who only hatched one chic a few weeks ago is already sitting on eggs again but she has her baby in nest to. I'm not sure how the chic even got there in first place. Is this normal for hens to do that while they still have a little one?

Weird day here.

First, the neighbor's roos both were killed and fully consumed by something last night. One of the neighbors on my side of her property found a ring of black and orange feathers, and then DH said he found a few similar feathers in our yard, too. Once she got home from work, I walked over and told her. She knew they were gone, just not where or by what. She has the sorriest excuse for chicken housing I have ever seen. No coop! Just chain link fencing, like for a dog. There was no shade until DH said something to her, so she put up a tarp. Anyway, she keeps saying she is going to build or buy a coop, but there is always an excuse (she did not cut her grass for almost a year, and I'm not kidding). I don't think she can afford to even keep the four chickens she has left, though they look healthy. She said she's going to bring in her three hens, which are very sweet (I think they are Barred Plymouth Rocks), as well as her other roo, which she generally keeps in a small crate by himself all day, every day. Her chickens used to live inside with her 24/7 until this spring. I bet it smelled awesome...

We worked out in the yard/garden a ton today, as much as we can stand anyway. This morning I meant to candle the eggs in my bator, took the tray out with all 20 eggs, and was supposed to go find my candler. Well, I got carried away with the next thing and the next thing after that, and didn't remember the now room temperature eggs for about 2-3 hours. It's Day 5 today. What are the odds that I'll have any survivors? I fully expect to see blood rings in the near future, but just wondered if any of you had ever had a similar situation at a similar time of incubation and had any eggs hatch. We are already collecting replacement eggs. I wouldn't be hatching any eggs now except I have a repeat buyer who wants more lav pullets, plus I need some girls for myself (I have plenty of boys).

Anybody know if Townline crosses Penedesencas and Marans to their Welsummers to "improve" them? My roo looks to be developing a crown comb and the oldest hen has unshaven legs. They're not really "feathered" the way my Brahmas are, but she has teeny tiny stubble feathers poking out between the scales on her legs. I'm starting to think my opinion of Townline can't get lower. I've already caught them shipping the wrong breeds to Rural King and trying to say they're Easter Eggers are purebred... but is this going a mite too far? Plus, all my Wyandottes have the wrong combs. So glad I'm not showing any chickens.

I've never dealt with Townline, but it sure sounds like they have their heads where the sun doesn't shine. It is indeed a good thing you aren't showing chickens or don't have kids in 4-H with chicken projects. Thanks for sharing. We have used Ideal Hatchery in the past and been very pleased. They were hatchery quality birds, but at least every bird at least met the basics of their standard in terms of colors, comb type, leg feathering or not, etc. We've been buying from private individuals the last few years, and overall that has been a better experience for us. I was a bit disappointed with two breeders, but I've bought hatching eggs through Craigslist (drove to get them, so I saw the parents) and through here @ChickCrazed that went great. I also picked up some hens from a kid in Tennessee on the English Orp thread here and that went well, except for all the driving. Facebook proved to be a disappointing experience for me, but that may have just been this particular breeder who was all about the money and couldn't care less about the birds or anything else.

Been super busy around here so haven't been on for a while. At first I thought I'd try to catch up, but then settled on just the last few pages. So congratulations, condolences, good wishes, and welcomes to anyone who has needed or deserved them!

I had thought about going to the Southern Ohio show this weekend, but they sent back my entry saying Indiana people weren't welcome this time (because of the AI incident in Whitley county). I had been debating whether I wanted to take my birds around others anyhow until the AI dies down (hopefully it will, and soon!).

So this segues to the next topic: I had a vet from the BOAH test my flock today. Within the last week 3 birds died and another is down but still breathing, so I panicked and called them. The samples won't be tested until Tuesday, but he didn't think it looked like AI but more like a coincidence that it all happened within a few days. So I'm quarantined until he gets back to me, which is okay--didn't plan on going anywhere around birds anyhow. I'm not going to bite my nails until then--nothing I can do about it in any case so may as well go about business as usual.
