INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Kinda excited right now and had to share. I searched back through e-mails from last summer regarding Indy Rezone to contact the lady at the Purdue extension and ask her to let people know that Indy Rezone is going to City Council - updates were supposedly going to come from her office. I discovered that the e-mail addresses of all the people at the Urban Ag meetings last summer are in her e-mails. So I replied all. It went out to 45 people. I already have had a couple positive responses (despite sending it out at 10:30 at night!) including one posting my e-mail on his blog . We need as many people on our side as possible! I feel a little more hopeful about this, knowing the word will finally get spread beyond my tiny sphere of influence!

Aside from filling the last few guinea keet orders, last call and will not be setting any more guinea eggs! I have whites, lavenders, chocolates and pearls. Will still be hatching turkeys if they ever start laying again

and ducks. So if you are thinking about guineas, please PM me. I will still offer hatching eggs but not keets after this week.

I am trying to find homes for my 2 Lavender Orpingtons Cockerels. I had gotten them both from Faraday40 as chicks. The one in front is an American Breed Orp and the 1 behind him is an English Breed, which I believe she got the eggs from someone here on the Indiana thread. They are both sweethearts and I am hoping to find a good home for them. Or maybe a home for one and find a Lav Orp pullet for me!

Hmmm... They really look like hens, I raise Lavender orps. Can you get another picture of the one standing up, especially the tail feathers and saddle? don't let the combs fool you, orp hens can have a pretty big comb. They are beautifully striking birds for sure, I just adore ours.

I am pretty sure the English Orp (the one that is standing in the back) is a cockerel, because he is trying to crow, sadly but a crow none the less. The American Orp, I LOVE, he is so sweet and has the prettiest face. He has not began crowing yet , but is huge! Faraday said his father didn't begin crowing until later on also. I would love if one of them were a pullet. All other pics of the English Breed, are from about a month ago, he is 2 months here.

The lack of tailfeathers, yup may be a roo, large legs and longer neck. The other bird in the fore ground of your previous pictures I bet 99% is hen. I really think you have a pair!
I hope you are right! I have been waiting to see and driving poor Faraday nuts and sending her pics to see what she thought. That is why I have waited to try and rehome them. So I guess I am going to wait a little longer to make sure, before letting anyone go. I have been wondering why my little Olive Egger cockerel is picking on my huge American Orp, and getting away with it. Thank you for your help and I hope you are right! They are such Pretty birds.

Quote: Seriously, I would wait. Aww the OE will learn thats a big mistake!
Lavender orps are a wonderful heritage breed, very hardy as chicks. My breeding rooster is at 12 pounds last time I weighed him. Hens are docile, friendly birds. My favorite, will always keep them here. Hens lay 5 days a week or more. They will go broody, I have one hen broody and 2 molting.

Above is Hershey, my chocolate cuckoo English Orpington cockerel from @Junibutt.

Above is the chocolate pullet, Cocoa, also from @Junibutt.

They're about a month old. Hershey is very mellow. I'm sure Cocoa will chill out once her hormones kick in! They are sharing space with our "mutt" olive egger pullet that's half Lav Orp and half Red Wheaten Ameracauna, but she looks a lot more Orpish, and is right now is as big as the Orp pullets the same age. DH so wants her to have Ameracauna muff/beard, but I don't think that's going to happen. No signs so far.

Where/ what section do you find the neem oil at RK? Didn't know they had it and I'm sure it is much less expensive than getting it anywhere else!
Quote:
We got our organic neem oil at Lowe's. It was a smaller bottle (32 oz?? -- it's out in the greenhouse so I can't check) of concentrate for $9.97. We used it for the first time this year & sprayed our fruit trees. DH just did another application a few days ago. He commented that the top leaves where the spray wasn't hitting as well were bug chewed, but not the rest of the trees. Hope that means less bugs in the fruit! This will be our first year for getting a measurable amount of fruit -- pretty exciting for us!!
