INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We finally got our hay in this weekend, 800 bales pulled out of the field, moved to barns and stacked. My luck also holds, I broke my pinkie finger two weeks ago after slipping in the mud (Indiana is out to get me), so I got to lift 800 bales with a broken finger! Oh well, we do what we must! It feels good to finally have hay in the barn. I should be able to go through most of winter with what I have, I may have to augment a bit if we have to start haying early. Everyone is talking about how hard it will be to find this winter. I hope that is not true and more people are able to get it in this year!

I also took in a foster dog a couple of weeks ago. Indianapolis Animal Care and Control has been flooded with irresponsible pet owner surrenders, they said they are getting four to five pets surrendered at once by some families. They are at the point of having to euthanize for space unless rescue groups can find fosters to take them in. I am a sap so I volunteered to take a 9 year old border collie mix. He is a cute old guy. I'm working on getting some weight on him and getting his skin and coat a bit heathier, but hope to find him a great home in the near future. He is super laid back and easy, he just needs a new family willing to give him some space on their couch for his final few years! He hasn't even batted an eye at my chickens so far! He will eventually be available through FACE if anyone knows anyone who might be interested in this cutie!

We worked on hay last week too, got about 2 acres in, rebedded most of the coops, pens and filled hay up on the rack for the goats. I am already out, it was way overdue. We have about another acre to cut yet, and hope for a few dry days. Trying to rotate fields, the weeds are just crazy here this year too. Goats are loving the fence lines this year, had some pleasant days I was able to have them out several hours. Hogs now do a "piggie 500 race" when they hear the tractor coming, goofballs circling the pen as fast as they can! They love rolling and munching the grass hay. Hilarious watching my big boar bouncing like a puppy!
Had an empty feeling when we started seeing the school buses lol. With both DDs moved away, seeing the bus go by makes me think of when they were little. Bet you guys with kids have a full plate right now!
Be glad when molts are over, getting about 5 eggs a day right now, ugh. Was blessed with another HUGE duckling hatch this morning, 16 tiny scovys in our goat pen! This hen just hatched 17 about 6 weeks ago! She has a lavender hen sharing the nest so all these ducklings are spoken for already. I will be keeping more hens for next season!

HA! Sorry. I havent' been on here in forever. I was trying to reply to a message someone posted about a rooster for sale that I had last year. Apparently I made a new post instead of replying to theirs.

I am looking to find a new home for one of my White Peacocks. A year old this June and very polite boys. Purchased at 4 mos of age from South Dakota BYC member Blue Creek Farm.
I have 3 peacocks and only 1 hen. I believe 2 of the 3 chicks hatched are male also! So before next breeding season I need to rehome one of them.

Anyone interested?

How much? Would he need a buddy?

He would need a hen at the least.
*you can usually find India Blue hens relatively cheap..about $75 for a breeding age or $40 for a young one*
Unless penned of course until one could be obtained. He would need penned at least a month with the hen or on the property if planning to free range with lots of treats and attention. $150
