We finally got our hay in this weekend, 800 bales pulled out of the field, moved to barns and stacked. My luck also holds, I broke my pinkie finger two weeks ago after slipping in the mud (Indiana is out to get me), so I got to lift 800 bales with a broken finger! Oh well, we do what we must! It feels good to finally have hay in the barn. I should be able to go through most of winter with what I have, I may have to augment a bit if we have to start haying early. Everyone is talking about how hard it will be to find this winter. I hope that is not true and more people are able to get it in this year!
I also took in a foster dog a couple of weeks ago. Indianapolis Animal Care and Control has been flooded with irresponsible pet owner surrenders, they said they are getting four to five pets surrendered at once by some families. They are at the point of having to euthanize for space unless rescue groups can find fosters to take them in. I am a sap so I volunteered to take a 9 year old border collie mix. He is a cute old guy. I'm working on getting some weight on him and getting his skin and coat a bit heathier, but hope to find him a great home in the near future. He is super laid back and easy, he just needs a new family willing to give him some space on their couch for his final few years! He hasn't even batted an eye at my chickens so far! He will eventually be available through FACE if anyone knows anyone who might be interested in this cutie!
