I've been crazy busy with life!! Had so many of my girls go broody and had about 50 eggs they were all sitting on! Hatched 32 of those gave 21 to my uncle and another 3 to a man my DH works with. I still have 8 of those and I would swear they are all roos!! Only 1 Blue Marans out of those left..we'll see how he grows out and maybe will replace my current Blue roo...??

Then I still had 1 girl I couldn't get broke and then a new girl started. So I bought some eggs from a different breeder and out of 15 - 5 hatched. 2 Black Copper, 1 Blue Copper and 2 Olive Eggers. Now I'm super excited about the OE as 1 id Blue and the other Splash!! AM crosses.
Now I know that hatch rate sounds bad but I put 7 of the shipped eggs under a broody and she only set them for a week. I lost power around the same time for 24 hours due to storms. .my homemade incubator, Temps dropped to 80 for at least 12 hours and some still hatched. I had added some of my own eggs in there from the other broody to try to break her. She is still trying! ! I need to just bite the bullet and make the time to stick her in my broody breaker cage! Just haven't! Sooo...

I have filled another bator from the darned broody! I don't get to messing with her for several days and by then I know they're developing and can't get myself to pitch them! I am going to have chick's coming out of my ears once again! Anyways!

Turkey hens are still having issues adjusting to our jake's loss. Falkor has been lost signalling frequently and has to periodically search everywhere. All three have been a bit "off", and the best medicine so far has been distraction with treats (or my paint splatters--they feel like they have to "preen" off the all the colorful bits that don't belong).

At least one more person in the neighborhood has a rooster because he's been starting crow-offs from a few doors down. Wun Wun decided to join in this morning after I put Mag the Mighty back in the coop to cut down his noise. The D'Uccle Nugget is too hard to catch, so I left him out. Looks to be one of those days where the boys just don't want to shut up. Wun Wun and Mag are both older than Nugget, but both took longer to crow, and Wun Wun just started today (he's about 5mos old). He hasn't tried to get with the ladies yet either and is much taller than Mag, but not as fluffy (they're both Dark Brahmas). Late blooming boy, apparently, but still not as late blooming as the silkie rooster, who neither crows nor attempts his husbandly duties as yet. I was kind of hoping Wun Wun would never crow, to be honest...

Hi everyone. I havent had much time on here with getting the kids ready to go back to school and all the projects we have going on. But I did want to see if anybody here may be wanting some extra roos. These guys are only about 6 weeks old, super sweet so far. They came from Akers Hatchery down in Salem. I have 1 Buff Orpington and 3 Barred Rocks that need new homes.
They are free if anyone wants to drive south togt them.

I also have several bunnies if anyone is interested. Mostly lionheads, but there are 2 that we dont know the breed. 6 total, 6 months old. Very cute sweet pets

Ive been trying to answer all day but the mobile site quit working. I am in Lawrence county...not sure where you are but we are almost 2 hours south of Indy...

I don't know if anyone's thought about it but I was just thinking my feed is formulated for laying birds... So that probably means there's a higher amount of calsium for egg production.... Now I'm not entirely sure but I'm pretty sure Henry my rir roo has no desire to lay an egg any time soon so does the feed account for Roos? Or should I be feeding him seperatly. The bag says not to feed to chicks but no mention of Roos

I feed Nutrena All-Flock to everybody except the chicks and put calcium out where the hens can get it when they want it. It's a bit more expensive than layer feed but also seems to go further. I used to feed layer pellets until some knowledgeable folks on this thread pointed out the downside of that.
