So much I'd like to share, including pics, but I just don't have time. Life just got really complicated this summer, the past couple weeks especially. Luckily I have chickens to escape to for some therapy! I so wish I could be on here more. Glad to have @minmin1258 back with us!

Okay, the main reason I got on . . .

INDY REZONE UPDATE (Really last Minute SORRY!)

I majorly dropped the ball. Started this a couple weeks ago and just plain forgot to finish - and almost completely forgot about it all together! Homeschooling High School for the first time this year and it is a little overwhelming!

The Indianapolis Metropolitan and economic development committee meeting where Indy Rezone will be discussed is TOMORROW Monday Aug. 31, 2015 IN AN ODD LOCATION (see below). Supposedly this meeting will be open to public comment, officially the last meeting sorta was but they made it clear they really didn't want anyone to comment. All that happened was that the people who wrote Indy Rezone talked about how "wonderful" it is. Here is their announcement which can be found here http://www.indy.gov/eGov/Council/Meetings/Committees/Documents/2015/2MED8-31-15.pdf:

There will be a meeting of the Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee of the City County Council on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at Fishback Creek Public Academy, 8301 W 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46278 (Enter Door #1).

I will refrain from sharing my thoughts on the change of location! So glad I decided to peek at the agenda. At least parking I imagine will be free.

Would love to see some other folks from Indy there. I plan to speak. YIKES!!

Super busy weekend. A big thanks to @racinchickins @SallyinIndiana (Actually Brian, thanks for meeting up for Lori and I) @ellymayRans @wheezy50 for our meet n swap this afternoon, great to see everyone! Also got to see @barb s Saturday and was able to visit a while, hopefully Big Pig will be a good boy for her and his new sows.
Off to catch up on the thread!

Does anyone know where I can get Denagard locally? i got some at a show this spring and have just run out. I need to get some more ASAP? I appreciate any info that you can pass along. I've tried RK, TSC, and Orchlens nata! Is this something I can only get online?
I dont think anyone posted another idea, it does seem to be out a lot lately. All the wet cool weather this spring has probably not helped. I have ordered from Valley Vet and Jeffers online and always had good service. Rural king and TSC are online also.

So far I have lost 2 babies to Toxicity and 1 is under treatment still, and not looking good. I don't know how it got to my heard. I kept the sick kid up where the goats are never at. Not even for a second did any of mine come into contact with the sick kid or where she was at.

I am selling my billy and banding the buckling I left. I have laid down the law, no more goats period. Whoever survives this will be it. no more breading ( I already have does due in Dec. ) and no more milk for me.
I am so sorry

Look the hen over carefully, be sure she hasn't picked up lice or mites. Its more common on broody girls since they stay on the nest and don't preen and dust bathe as often. Its no different than a dog getting fleas. Some clues will be whitish clumps on the feather shafts especially close to the body. The tines of the feathers may look stripped or transparent. Sevin dust, the garden variety is helpful in stopping them, and is safe for just about every living thing aside from insects! Post a picture if you can when your chick is dry. I have not had to treat newborn chicks so I hope someone with experience can help. I have seen this in adult birds thats came here, and think it may be whats happened.

Ok thanks, my question is, is came out of the shell like that? How would mites get in the shell

My only thought is if there were adult mites in the nest, if they had laid eggs on the baby. But It may be just droplets since the humidity has been so high! Hope your chicks are doing well.

Hi All, one of my hens is consistently laying eggs that look like this. Do you have any ideas why? They have access to plenty of fresh water, organic feed pellets, oyster shell, and free range in our yard about 6-8 hours per day. Any ideas are appreciated.
I have seen this too, I keep free choice oyster shell. Cant help but wonder if one hen likes it a lot more than others and gets too much calcium.

Quote: You have an EE that went broody and is raising her own??? Wow didn't know EE's went broody let alone raised the chicks, that's awesome. Wish I had one or 2 or 3 lol that would do that. I have the worst luck at hatching egg and EE's are the worst. I had 2 dz in the bator this last time and MOST of them were EEggs, I got 2 EE's, which really made me say Fudge sticks!! a few times ( yes that's really what I said lol ) and most all the BYM's hatched giving me a total live count of 6. I am not impressed with myself at all.
Would it be too much to ask of you to post a pic of your black? I would just love to see her.
What a cutie!

Adorable girl! I have a charcoal colored EE That was LO dad, Blue Wheaton EE mom.
Quote: Aww, what a sweet picture! My very first broody hen ever was Bunny, also very first EE! She was an excellent, fearsome mother. No one dared approach her chicks. Bunny hatched and raised them 100% free range, in my old falling apart coop.

Goodness, I am about burnt out dealing with chicken sickness. I feel like never a day goes by where everyone is fine! Currently I am dealing with bumblefoot in my rooster...which he was running a fever. Wookie, my crooked beak (from injury) who's beak is growing out and now everything is shifting hopefully back in place. Which is causing him to have some drainage....I am assuming is from his sinuses. This stinkin bout of coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis is going to be the death of ME I swear it! Just when I think we are passed it, Someone shows signs again. And I am doing EVERYTHING in my power to keep things dry and sanitized. Also tube feeding and antibiotics for all the birds that are showing symptoms. I am exhausted, and feel like an awful chicken mom. But I am trying!

Okay that is enough of my venting! Figured I better get it out before the weekend is over! LOL

Anywhooooo! Happy Sunday! Off to round up all the birds meds. And maybe mix up a Mimosa for myself!

UGh, am so sorry you are dealing with all of it. Really does seem to come in a wave when illness hits!

In case anyone is interested, I have 5 young roosters from a Nankin female or an English game cross and who knows what males? They mostly look like Nankins. Anyway, they are free if anyone wants them. PM me if interested. Thanks.

Aww, what cuties!

Quote: I thought of you on Friday as we processed 2 of our meat turkeys. Still have 2 more meat turkeys that need to grow larger but at least 2 are done. Now I just have to decide how much of that meat I want to grind and how much I want to roast.

For grinding, if I grind just the white meat as it is the easiest to debone, will it be good for burgers? Or will I need to mix it with a meat containing more fat?
You will definitely want to mix the meat.
X2 agreed, the breast alone won't cling together for patties.

you will be in for a treat for sure.

First plane landed in South Carolina then to the one to take me home(Florida) for a week

Enjoy the stay!
My turkey cock Giblets needs a girlfriend. His parents were a heritage bronze hen and a wild cock. I'm looking for a hen that's not a BB to be a companion for him; his mate went off in the woods to nest this spring and that was the last of her. If anyone has any leads, please

PM me.
@racinchickins for sure!

Oh how happy I am! I came home to a just hatched Partridge Silkie chick!! I am going to have to look at my breeding chart again because I didn't think a Black roo over a Partridge hen would produce partridge! Not often but here's to hoping it's a Boy!!

Pics to follow after its out of the bator!

This is a test hatch as I am building a incubator and providing eggs to a woman who wants Silkies but also be a part of the hatching experience. I've hatched 1 blue and 1 partridge of the 2 eggs I set. Sweet!
Sounds really exciting! Congrats on the build too!

Thank you for keeping up on this! Definitely stand strong and let them know your thoughts. I think its insulting and ridiculous that they are trying to put so much control over poultry keeping along wiith other livestock.

Anybody in central IN know if TSC or RK carry the Tylan 50 (powdered kind to go in water)?

I just noticed some puffy swollen cheeks on one of my turkeys. After some quick research on here, looks like it may be "mycoplasma" (sp?) and that was recommended to treat. I'd rather not go the syringe route but will if the water soluble stuff doesnt work.
