INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Well that sucks. @jchnny2000.

Sadly I think it also answers what happened to my campine a month ago.

And the wife just texted me to inform me that our free-ranging yard cat is laying in the yard. It's dark when I leave in the morning, so I didn't see him this morning to take care of it.
So sorry about your cat.

The other thing keeping me busy is that my bipolar but untreated neighbor finally wnet into treatment for the first time (she's in her 50's). She had, at one time, 6 cats, 6 chickens, and 1 dog all living inside and crapping and peeing inside. Her house is completely ruined inside. 50 very large black bags of stuff plus a lot of furniture have been thrown away. The cats look better than expected and are indoor/outdoor right now. I am helping the owner's sister get them all neutered and spayed (they aren't, except one), vaccinated, de-flea'd, etc. We adopted one, a black and white cutie that we named Pepe le Pew because he has a white stripe down his neck. Through FB, a friend of a friend was found locally who is an experienced rescuer and she is taking the rest next week after their surgeries (ours was the only one neutered). It's really a tragedy. Her last two chickens died of ammonia poisoning inside the house. We found the dehydrated body of her barred rock hen, which I begged her to let me care for, at the bottom of a crate with half a foot of food and feces. Because I am a veterinarian (even though I'm disabled and retired), I can't let my anger get in the way of helping. It is also in my personal best interest to help because unless that house is sanitized and fixed up (and SOLD), it is going to destroy our own property value. The woman paid CASH for a house that cost over $200K. Who does that? It's not smart. But she was manic then. She has no money (liquid) left. She was estranged by her choice from her sister, who lives 2 miles away. That rift is being healed and the neighbor had a week of inpatient treatment to jump-start her recovery. The sister and I are cooperating to take care of the cats, and I will help in other ways as my crappy back permits. I just threw away a tote full of empty cardboard boxes (all ruined by rain) to get them off the porch. It is very easy to get angry at animal hoarders, especially when deaths result. It is harder to rise up and try to help. I know a number of you have stepped up to help in similar situations. BLESS YOU ALL! I believe in the power of karma.

I'll post some photos of the new kitty later, and maybe even take some chicken photos, LOL!

Congratulations on your new bundle of laughs, Beavis. He sounds like a good dog for you.

I'm shocked about the severity of your neighbor's situation. So glad she's getting some help. It's got to be overwhelming. Sometimes it's just too difficult for people in those situations to make decisions..... so nothing gets done & the problems grow worse. For her to admit there are issues & ask for help is a HUGE step. You are very compassionate to help, and because of your expertise, you may be able to offer up a path out - for the animals anyway.

My sister in law had some severe health issues that caused depression & financial collapse. They could not see a way out. DH & his dad were able to come up with short-term & long -term plans. We took 2 weeks off to clear out the house & schedule work crews. Their un-sell-able house was sold 35 days later. It was tough, but we were able to get their family through the roughest parts. I did more of the grunt work, cleaning, & child care. Everyone has their strengths & weaknesses. What helped DH & I get through it was being able to vent to each other and count our own blessings. Looking back at those rough times, I realize how easily anyone can fall victim to a series of unfortunate events. It's easy to judge & spot problems, but to get in there & help some one out of the situation takes real strength.

Again, I say you have great compassion to help your neighbor in need.

So a lot going on in my life lately!! Sigh! Besides the ongoing rescue and care of the Peas.. ;) Just a few days after the rescue my DH was in a bad car accident. Someone ran a stop sign crossing St Rd 44. Wonderful news is the side air bags, etc saved him, walking away with only lots of bruising. Unfortunately my beautiful vehicle was totaled. Now more than a week later I'm still waiting to get a call back from their insurance company!

Fortunately I am driving my aunts spare truck so I'm not completely high and dry!

Just found out today that nothing hits you harder then one of your prized silkie chicks dieing for no apperent reason left earlier today no signs of trouble come home just a but ago and one of my greys was dead only things I could think of is maybe it got to hot or the others trampled it but sadest part was when I removed the chick and barried it came back to check again and they were looking for it so sad

We're not having an Asian beetle problem as much as we do a stink bug problem. Not the native green ones, but the invasive brown ones. They come into the house like they own the place.
We have one puppy that eats them...then he's sorry for a few seconds...then he goes right about his business. To me, they smell like very strong cilantro when they excrete their stink.

When I had pumpkins everyone was covered in those stinkers worse thing was the chickens wouldn't go near them it was hopeing they would be free snacks but nope
